InSinkErator BADGER5, Continuous-Feed Garbage Disposal without Cord, Waterborne Gray Enamel, 1/2 HP Reviews

4.1 Rating 590 Reviews
This new Badger 5 (model 5-91A), was used to replace an old Badger 5 (model 5-84) that was manufactured over 11 years ago and had started leaking a bunch out of the bottom of the unit. The existing mounting plate from the old unit worked perfectly with the new one, and the old drain pipe lined up with the existing plumbing as well. This was my first time installing a garbage disposal and it was very easy due to the reuse of the mounting plate and existing plumbing. If either of those needed to be replaced or modified, it would certainly have been a bit more challenging.Compared to the old unit, the new one is noticeably quieter. Grinding some ice cubes to test it out went very quickly and much more quietly than the old unit would have managed.Overall, with the easy installation and quiet operation, this is a winner, especially for the relatively low price. Hopefully it lasts as long as the old one.

I had this garbage disposal installed by a plumber. I've had it for several months with no concerns. It seems to be quieter than other disposals I've had in the past.

What I like was also a puzzlement. I have replaced garbage disposals many years ago and KNOW they are a pain to get started but then you can rotate them to the position you want. This disposal has a retaining notch that the collar fits in that had me completely befuddled. Before I tried to installed it I looked it up on the internet and there is all kinds of advice to grind off the retainer notch, etc. BUT the retainer is a great assistant to getting the install started MUCH easier than in the past and then gets out of the way almost immediately as the seal compresses. The instructions don't mention that and those of us with "old knowledge" are confused. Once I figured it out, it was VERY easy to install and everything works great.

I ordered this garbage disposal to replace a 12-year-old disposal that had corroded from the bottom and was leaking. This was the easiest plumbing-type installation I’ve ever done. I am a 56-year-old woman and I did it alone in less than a half hour. The instructions included are detailed, plus the online video is very helpful. I trust this brand and I’m so happy to have a new, reliable garbage disposal.
