“The cartridge is a new model of the same Moen 1222 cartridge from ~2000 through ~2015, and is a perfect replacement. The installation "feel" for this new model cartridge is a bit different from the old model, as follows:The old cartridge was positioned within the holding cylinder with 2 o-rings: one at back, one at front. This new-model cartridge does not have the back o-ring; the positioning function is taken up by the 2 gaskets around the water inflow openings. This means that the gaskets around the water inflow openings are compressed tighter against the cylinder walls. Therefore, when installing the cartridge into the cylinder, more force is needed to overcome the friction of the water-inflow gaskets with the cylinder walls. This force can be minimized by generously lubricating these gaskets - and the cartridge slides into the cylinder easily. [However, without sufficient lubrication, it can be very difficult to slide the cartridge in, and the friction could damage the water-inflow gaskets.]”
“Replaced an 8 year old valve (see photo) with a new one and it's so much easier to turn now. Not only is the temperature control more precise, but the shower handle will no longer come loose from the force previously to operate. High Return on Effort (ROE) here!”
“I would NOT have been able to get the old Cartridge out without the included little plastic helper piece.Just put it on and with channel locks or vice grips, try to rock it back/forth in place. I kept doing that then pulled while going back/forth a tad. It took a hot minute but I got it! Grateful for that piece & avoided spending $15 at plumbingsupplyandmore for a metal puller. No leaks with the new Cartridge!”
