Ratio Six Coffee Machine - Series 2 Reviews

4.5 Rating 253 Reviews
Fantastic looking machine that blooms and brews your coffee. Easy 1st time set up and the instructions are very clear. Steam can gather on the outside of the machine when brewing but that is noted in the instruction booklet. Carafe keeps things warm after brewing. Only complaints are a plastic filter basket (I’ll pay the price for a stainless steel or ceramic filter basket) and an extremely inelegant pour.

I rated the ratio six excellent because it truly is. My mornings are now what I look forward to the most, and as soon as my coffee time is over I can’t wait for the next day! Easy to use, easy to clean, convenient. I thought it would be too small or not stay hot enough but the thermos keeps warm for hours and the coffee is so good I can really savor it and it’s plenty!!

This is more of a 4.5 star review. Overall we are so happy with our Ratio Six. It brews delicious coffee of all roasts. It does it both quickly and quietly, with a bed of grounds that is beautifully flat. As an aside, I don't know how someone can't see that the brew basket is made of plastic. My only minor qualm is with the carafe lid which needs a redesign. I'm happy with the performance of the carafe in maintaining temperature, and I don't even do a preheat rinse. However, when pouring with a volume less than 4 cups of coffee, the liquid hugs the top edge of the spout and lid and doesn't pour smoothly. First cup with a fuller carafe of 4+ cups works great (looking just like the photo above), but I always have to take the lid off for my final pour to avoid splattering coffee. I imagine that simply removing the section of the silicone seal from the spout area will do the trick and allow the liquid to maintain adhesion with the lower edge. That section of silicone doesn't seem necessary as the carafe has a small gap there regardless. It's not a deal breaker by any means, just something to work around. But for the price, Ratio really should fix this, and I think they can do it by only modifying the lid. I still highly recommend this machine.

Plastic coffee basket - Like many people considering a Ratio, I had been looking to for a plastic free solution to coffee making that still involved a paper filter and is easy to do. I was very bummed to receive the Ratio and see that it had a plastic coffee basket. I purchased the glass carafe for an additional $60 to solve this issue, and it works great. Really wish Ratio would just do away with the plastic all together or at least state that the basket is plastic clearly in the description. SO close to a perfect coffee maker! Otherwise I'm very satisfied with the coffee maker itself and all of our brews have been coming out great.

So beautiful! Wasn’t aware of there being no hot plate, but will be better when not using the glass carafe I have been using.
