Keeps coffee at a nice temp for a good stretch but requires preheating the interior with hot water before brewing. The carafe has a nice weight to it, but it feels imbalanced, almost excessively heavy. Pouring is a bit awkward, especially when getting the last of the coffee out. This flaw when pouring appears to be related to the spout design and the trade-offs made to accommodate the base of the dripper, heating area of the Ratio Eight itself, and volume of the carafe. Also the standard Chemex filters that fit the Ratio Eight glass carafe are an inch or so too tall for the dripper and this thermal carafe. Overall, I am happy with how hot coffee now stays hot for much longer, and can overlook the minor downsides of the carafe and dripper. Whether or not this will be worth the extra cost is dependent on individual preference and budget.

Honestly, I am so bummed out about this thing. It took so long to get and I finally get it and I did not realize and had no idea that it does not have a hot plate. My husband is more or less furious with me that I would buy an $800 coffee pot that can’t keep it hot longer than 15 minutes. I really want to return it, but I’m unsure of the return policy.

Machine malfunctions..all three lights come on at random..the “bloom” light will come on randomly as well. Have ordered another machine and will return this one

As you can see in the picture, the stainless steel is surrounded by a ring of plastic that in my usage is prone to peeling and breaking. So if you’re looking for a plastic-free experience to avoid microplastics in your drink - look elsewhere. There are fully stainless steel filters out there on other shops.

I like this carafe and dripper and find it very handsome. but we all wonder why on earth the metal handle and rim are so incredibly heavy? Also the rubber stopper needs tweaking as one has to let a bit of air in at the back of the stopper to get a decent pour. These are significant problems for houseguests who treat the setup gingerly. Too bad, but it’s good to look at first thing in the morning.

We were so excited to get our ratio eight series 2 but it’s been a total let down. The coffee maker CONSTANTLY overflows when we try to make a large batch. I’ve called and emailed customer support but after 4 business days, theres been no response or help. Additionally, the base of the machine is entirely white plastic now. When the coffee is brewing, it spits coffee out on the counter and base. After a couple of months, I highly suspect the base will be stained - even with vigilant cleaning. Overall, we’re disappointed and I can’t recommend the machine.

Didn’t get the Ratio Six. I was sent the fancy, fancy Ratio 8 by your shipping department. Even though the error was not mine, I was told I had to re-pack the coffee maker and run the risk of a 20% restocking fee if there was any damage. I had decided I did not want the Ratio Six either, but you would not issue me a charge credit until I returned the machine you sent me in error safely. The only way to avoid this unpleasantness was to pay you an additional $260.00. You extorted me. Such an awful experience!! My coffee maker will be in a charity white elephant sale at a large church in my city, with a hilarious note about this farce. And on top of everything, after changing filter brand, type, coffee grind, water to coffee ratio, I have never gotten a decent cup of coffee!! You couldn’t make up a more ridiculous product/service story than this. I think the Ratio Six will be a hit at the white elephant sale—should be good for something.

I have never spent this much on a coffee machine so I was expecting a little more perfection in the details. For me the coffee brewed is excellent. What upset me was I was using Ratio paper filters and 85 percent of the time the water backed up in the filter and took me to lift the hot paper filter up for it to flow. Next if I don’t perfectly align the glass pot I find water under the glass pot when I remove it to pour coffee. It does not leak the water coming out hits the rubber ring. Steam condensation forms on the outside of where the water comes out and you have to wipe it off. It might be me and maybe I am too picky but want to say again the coffee is great.

I have tried to write customer support several times from my other email and they have not gotten back to me. The support has been very bad. The product is definitely not worth $800. There is so much condensation around the head that it seems very sloppy and drips all over the heat protector. The filters they recommend are not good. I have had to make the coffee very coarse or else it will overflow out of the filter. When I pay $800 for a machine I am expecting it to work perfectly. My experience has not been worth the price of the machine thus far. I am hoping they respond to my other email and give me better tips for a better experience.

Takes forever to clean as grounds stick even dry. Looks stained after just two uses even cleaned in hot water. Expensive- Sucks

Hi Ralph, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that cleaning the Able Basket has been frustrating. The basket is made of stainless steel and is dishwasher safe, which should make cleanup much easier. Just place it on the top rack after rinsing out the grounds.

Hi, I love the Ratio 8 Series 2, but the thermal carafe is honestly really poor. The coffee gets cold quickly, and therefore is a useless purchase.

Although we were very excited for a low plastic coffee maker, we were very disappointed with how expensive this machine was ($649) and how long it took to get it. I ordered the machine in May and it arrived at the end of September. We were surprised by the lack of ability to preset the coffee maker the night before. Additionally the water repeatedly overflowed the filter in the basket, despite using coarser and coarser grinds, and the recommended filter suggested on the website. We were also disappointed the machine didn’t come with any filters to begin with as an example. It also takes a very long time to brew, sometimes 10-15 minutes. Lastly, although the glass carafe is lovely, it doesn’t maintain heat well at all, so the coffee is quickly cold. In an effort to remedy this I looked to see if I could purchase a thermal carafe, but it was out of stock. Overall this was an incredibly disappointing experience.

Removed from the shipping box and immediately replaced it as the plastic base made it top heavy, overall much lighter than the original and cheap looking to boot. Highly disappointed. No longer a premium appliance. Returning it immediately. P. S. The original has a nice heavy power cord... Series 2 power cord skinny and again cheap looking Elictrically adequate I'm sure... But seriously?

I can't review this machine but as far as service from the company, I would call it poor. They do not offer an exchange. In order to exchange the coffee maker for another color, I had to reorder (which means I've paid for 2 machines at this point), and do a return. The rate at which the company responds is very slow 2-4 days for every email sent. They do send an automated message in the meantime. I've been waiting for a return label for shipping (costing me $26.00) because apparently, everyone is out of the office for the rest of the week (I called on Thursday). I don't understand why they didn't automatically send me a return label through email when they realized I was returning the white machine and purchasing the black machine. Then they could have deducted the shipping costs from my return. Instead, 5 emails later, and I'm still waiting for a return label. I've got over $700 into this, and I'm still waiting for a machine to be delivered to me, 2 wks later.

We were so excited for this purchase and it honestly fell a bit flat. This is a premium product, or so it says, and we received a defective carafe and a damaged package upon arrival. We called customer service to have this taken care of and the first response was to try to pull off the plastic ourselves. This not only will not work, it also is not the answer that we were hoping for considering we paid $400 for this item and it arrived damaged. We are currently still waiting for a replacement. The coffee maker itself makes nice coffee but the customer service has not impressed and is making us consider the electric chemex instead.
