“While I am happy with the coffee machine itself, I'm not satisfied with the carafe. It simply does not keep the coffee hot. Good for 15 minutes or so, then coffee is undrinkable. Honestly wish I had not made this purchase. Rated 2.”

“Did you know they used to make the water tank out of glass? Could have been plastic free… And is the tank supposed to hold 40 or 44 ounces of water? The fill line is 44 ounces which will fill the stubby little thermal carafe to just millimeters from spilling over (pro-tip: 42 ounces is the middle of the full circle – 1190 grams). Speaking of, the thermal carafe is probably the worst part of this set-up. Too top heavy, prone to dribbling, have to invert it completely to get those last drops out, and make sure you have the pour spout/handle screwed on very well. Oh, and cleaning it? Hope you have tiny hands to get in there. Alas, as I near the end of my return period, I decided to keep it as I figured out how to make more acceptable cup of coffee for my wife than the Moccamaster we had for 9 years which recently tried to melt a kitchen outlet.”

“It’s way way too heavy. It doesn’t feel good on the wrists. Also, it definitely doesn’t keep coffee warm enough for the price. Almost better off using the regular glass one.”

“Great customer service. Just wish the product was a little more trustworthy for the price point. Several family members have owned the ratio and mine was the last one working. Love the idea and plastic free components are my biggest vice so love the ratio for that but wish it was just more trustworthy”

“The machine makes good coffee but it is unbelievable to me that a coffee maker this expensive would have such a terrible carafe when it comes to pouring. How do you get it this wrong? Does not pour smoothly at all and can make a mess. Not happy about it. 3 stars”

“Disappointed that cold water tank is plastic. Is that a recent change? Seems misleading, especially if that piece used to be glass. At that point what is the different between the 8 and 6?”

“Love the Ratio 8, elegant and easy to use, very beautiful in the kitchen, 5 stars. Not a fan of the thermal carafe, 1.5 stars. It is uncomfortably heavy and hard to pour until empty (has to be tilted more than 90°. When full of coffee, it weighs over 4 and half pounds! This makes it unwieldy in your hand, like a small weapon. It also does not pour smoothly. Perhaps the channels in the rubber top need to be redesigned. For a coffee maker this nice, the Ratio 8 definitely deserves a better, lighter carafe. Thanks.”

“Hello, there is one critical design flaw that prevents me from giving full stars. The underside area around the showerhead is plastic and has exposed screws. The steam and condensation that builds up around the shower head during brewing causes water to build up on the plastic underside and drop into your coffee during brewing. As i bought this to have the most minimal contact between my coffee and plastic, it is disappointing. To help this I wrapped foil around the showerhead area and made a cut out for the shower head. This had helped allow the condensation to build up on the foil rather than the plastic. However this is a pretty big eye sore on my nearly $700 coffee maker. My wife thinks it’s hideous and is not thrilled about it. I would love if ratio would have an actual stainless steel piece fabricated that could slip over and around the shower head area so that don’t have hot water building up and perspiring off the plastic underside into my coffee. I would happily pay for this to have a more seamless user experience and remedy the aesthetics of my beautiful machine. Please consider having a stainless steel piece fabricated! Thank you”

“The power cord has no positive engagement into the device. If I don’t have the back pushed up against the counter backsplash, it falls out. The oval start button is horribly positioned and sensitive to touch, especially for my under counter location. I’ve contacted in in error three times during the first two weeks I’ve owned the device when I was pushing the basket past its detent to secure in place. The black on black design contributes to that. I plan to make a light grey decal that outlines the button so I can see it better. Beyond these flaws, I love the coffee it makes, the functionality, the streamlined design, and how easy it is to keep clean.”
