We were so excited to get our ratio eight series 2 but it’s been a total let down. The coffee maker CONSTANTLY overflows when we try to make a large batch. I’ve called and emailed customer support but after 4 business days, theres been no response or help. Additionally, the base of the machine is entirely white plastic now. When the coffee is brewing, it spits coffee out on the counter and base. After a couple of months, I highly suspect the base will be stained - even with vigilant cleaning. Overall, we’re disappointed and I can’t recommend the machine.

I have tried to write customer support several times from my other email and they have not gotten back to me. The support has been very bad. The product is definitely not worth $800. There is so much condensation around the head that it seems very sloppy and drips all over the heat protector. The filters they recommend are not good. I have had to make the coffee very coarse or else it will overflow out of the filter. When I pay $800 for a machine I am expecting it to work perfectly. My experience has not been worth the price of the machine thus far. I am hoping they respond to my other email and give me better tips for a better experience.

Although we were very excited for a low plastic coffee maker, we were very disappointed with how expensive this machine was ($649) and how long it took to get it. I ordered the machine in May and it arrived at the end of September. We were surprised by the lack of ability to preset the coffee maker the night before. Additionally the water repeatedly overflowed the filter in the basket, despite using coarser and coarser grinds, and the recommended filter suggested on the website. We were also disappointed the machine didn’t come with any filters to begin with as an example. It also takes a very long time to brew, sometimes 10-15 minutes. Lastly, although the glass carafe is lovely, it doesn’t maintain heat well at all, so the coffee is quickly cold. In an effort to remedy this I looked to see if I could purchase a thermal carafe, but it was out of stock. Overall this was an incredibly disappointing experience.

I can't review this machine but as far as service from the company, I would call it poor. They do not offer an exchange. In order to exchange the coffee maker for another color, I had to reorder (which means I've paid for 2 machines at this point), and do a return. The rate at which the company responds is very slow 2-4 days for every email sent. They do send an automated message in the meantime. I've been waiting for a return label for shipping (costing me $26.00) because apparently, everyone is out of the office for the rest of the week (I called on Thursday). I don't understand why they didn't automatically send me a return label through email when they realized I was returning the white machine and purchasing the black machine. Then they could have deducted the shipping costs from my return. Instead, 5 emails later, and I'm still waiting for a return label. I've got over $700 into this, and I'm still waiting for a machine to be delivered to me, 2 wks later.

While I am happy with the coffee machine itself, I'm not satisfied with the carafe. It simply does not keep the coffee hot. Good for 15 minutes or so, then coffee is undrinkable. Honestly wish I had not made this purchase. Rated 2.

Hey Joe, we're glad to hear you’re happy with the coffee machine, but sorry to hear the carafe isn’t quite hitting the mark for you. Our carafe is designed to keep your coffee hot longer, so we really appreciate you sharing your feedback. Did you know they used to make the water tank out of glass? Could have been plastic free… And is the tank supposed to hold 40 or 44 ounces of water? The fill line is 44 ounces which will fill the stubby little thermal carafe to just millimeters from spilling over (pro-tip: 42 ounces is the middle of the full circle – 1190 grams). Speaking of, the thermal carafe is probably the worst part of this set-up. Too top heavy, prone to dribbling, have to invert it completely to get those last drops out, and make sure you have the pour spout/handle screwed on very well. Oh, and cleaning it? Hope you have tiny hands to get in there. Alas, as I near the end of my return period, I decided to keep it as I figured out how to make more acceptable cup of coffee for my wife than the Moccamaster we had for 9 years which recently tried to melt a kitchen outlet.

Disappointed that cold water tank is plastic. Is that a recent change? Seems misleading, especially if that piece used to be glass. At that point what is the different between the 8 and 6?

The power cord has no positive engagement into the device. If I don’t have the back pushed up against the counter backsplash, it falls out. The oval start button is horribly positioned and sensitive to touch, especially for my under counter location. I’ve contacted in in error three times during the first two weeks I’ve owned the device when I was pushing the basket past its detent to secure in place. The black on black design contributes to that. I plan to make a light grey decal that outlines the button so I can see it better. Beyond these flaws, I love the coffee it makes, the functionality, the streamlined design, and how easy it is to keep clean.

Why is creating a carafe that pours properly so hard? Want to love my Ratio but think I made the wrong purchase.

I would not recommend this model to anyone. Being a backer and patiently waiting for this machine to be built I was disappointed in the outcome. The cheaper price reflects what you get. There are small things which I question how it passed to be "high quality". There are a few which I noticed right away. It is not small. The base is wider than the Ratio Six And that does not include the extra base needed to hold the water. So it takes up much more counter space which is one of the reasons I chose to get the Four is to save space. It's got a big base for a small carafe. The water tank should have been incorporated. It is super light. Light to the point of it sliding on the counter when inserting and removing the filter tray. When you push it in to get past the tabs to hold it it will tip backwards. It only has three very small rubber feet. The water base also has the same small rubber feet. That is not a big deal however when I first picked up the water container, the base come along with it and then fell off and hit the counter. It did that two or three times I guess it's a little more broken in now but still need to be careful because it still lifts up slightly. A couple minor things is the water container lid barely has a ridge on it to stay on and loose so another couple times I used it picking it up not being really careful the lid falls off. The water container is labeled as 0.6L and 1 cup divisions. But, their description is in ounces as well as just about every coffee cup and Tumblr. So I don't know why they couldn't label it in ounces makes no sense to me. This could very by person but one thing for me that I have to get used to is when pulling out the filter basket, I have to make sure not to naturally push with my thumb because the button is placed in that same area. Therefore at times I'll have to shut it off so it stops trying to brew with nothing ready. Personally I'm not a fan of the plastic basket either because chemicals are released when heat is introduced to plastic. That was one of the main reasons I went with ratio when I heard the internals are a glass and stainless steel. With this Four I question if that is true. The lid for the carafe it comes with I think is pointless. The idea of the four is for a single serve maybe two so why would you need a lid for it? The positive things I do really like the smoked carafe and the black satin looking housing. So yes a lot of these things are small and depending on the person but for said premium coffee maker, those things don't seem to have been researched and tested very well at all. I would highly recommend the Six over the Four if you are set on the Ratio brand.

We like the quality and materials. We were looking for something without plastic and this fits that requirement. However the design of the dripper is terrible. It has a very wide hole at the base which means the paper coffee cone is not supported and breaks about 50% of the time, causing coffee grounds to fall into the coffee. It’s been a disappointment.

Sadly the only Hario V60 02 that will work is the glass one which is 95mm. The plastic one is 102mm and does not work (too tall). Customer service excellent as usual.

I was excited to finally receive the Ratio 4 after a long wait but unfortunately it was a major disappointment. The machine has a high pitch tone when it starts brewing. The placement of the power button is annoying and constantly is accidentally touched and activated when you remove or put back the basket. Lastly, when I put in my cream the coffee was too cold which when I normally do a pour over at 204 it’s perfect with cream. So it brews too cool. Also, customer service has been totally non responsive! I will be returning this machine if they ever will acknowledge my email.

There should be a handle on the ceramic part that holds the filter and coffee if you want to take it off before it finishes dripping. The craft is not keep the coffee, very hot, it does not seal completely with the stopper. It’s difficult to pour the coffee.

Hi Mark, I purchased a Ratio 6 and though very pleased with it, thought the carafe was a bit clunky. Our family takes our coffee very seriously so we decided to splurge on a Ratio 8. We think the 8 makes better coffee than the 6, which is still very good, and we feel the carafe is much nicer for pouring. But, the water reservoir on the Ratio 6 does not empty completely after brewing coffee and that is a problem. I don't like old water to collect in the machine. I've actually gone back to using the 6, which is a shame. Have any other customers had this problem? Could I exchange it. Or, what would you suggest? Thanks.

Look is nice, but I think overall function and design of the Ratio Six is a little impractical. Personally not a fan of how the brew basket has to remain on top of the carafe while brewing, whereas other SCA coffee brewers have a holder for the brew basket. This allows for a “stop flow” capability so in the event Coffee is needed to be poured immediately, the carafe can be removed mid-brew. I personally also think the overall size is a bit bulky and too many individual components. Still brews a great cup of coffee but I prefer the Moccamaster and would not purchase another Ratio
