Eterra EX-30 Excavator Flail Mower
Description
Introducing the new and improved V2 model of the EX-30 Excavator Flail Mower – a top-of-the-line Flail Mower that is built for clearing grass and tough brush up to 6” along roadsides, ditches, and other hard-to-reach areas. The EX-30 Flail Mower is equipped with 20, 2lb Y Knife flail blades that are powered by a Permco Hydraulic Gear Motor. The blade life expectancy is up to 500 hours with normal use (No rock impacts). Additional blades and parts are always available as backups with your initial order or to purchase later as needed.
Now let's talk about the improvements to this unique and high-quality attachment: Eterra has consistently evolved and prioritized customer feedback, striving not only to maintain but to elevate its renowned quality. The drive shaft material has been updated for improved durability and reduced wear from impact. The housing design has been modified to improve rigidity and strength, this reduces flex in the housing which directly improves cutting performance. These enhancements ensure that this mower sets a new standard in the market for reliability and longevity.
The V2 model also boasts our new standard rail mounting system that is compatible with all new Eterra excavator products. For existing products and mounts, adaptors will be available for purchase. The new mount system features a stronger design and easier installation.
This mower is designed for excavators that weigh 7,000-14,000 lbs. with a flow range of 8-26 GPM. If this model doesn't fit the requirements of your machine, visit the EX-30M model that is rated for 2,200-7,000 lb. machines or the EX-40 model that is rated for 9,000-20,000 lb. machines.
Optional add-ons like the thumb saddle and chain guard are available to purchase for increased versatility and protection.
Note: Every excavator is different. Older models often utilize two pumps: one for stick and rotation control, and another for track drive and auxiliary flow (your mower). For machines that have this type of pump arrangement, it is not possible to drive the machine forward and cut at the same time. However, newer machines like Kubota and select Yanmar models boast three pumps, enabling simultaneous cutting and movement. For clarification on your machine's setup and capabilities, don't hesitate to contact our sales team for personalized assistance.

I have had this mower for a little over 2 years now. I am running it on a Kubota Kx121-3 Super Series. This mower had far exceeded it expectations. It takes down about any type of brush you put it in. Also trees of the right size it takes them right down as well. What I love most about this mower is its mulching capability. The brush/trees you cut down it mulches them up very well. When it comes to cutting just grass it leaves a nice cut mulching it up in stead of leaving the grass all piled up and clumpy.

Let's be clear this is a four star review and not a five star review. It lost one star because issues raised in previous reviews have not been addressed and proved to be relevant to my usage. The problem is the mount. It is under built an will distort. The bolts will shear by design, but not before deforming the mount. This could be easily addressed with a little reinforcement of the mounting plate, but remained a deficiency on my product. The flail mower itself is awesome and does a wonderful job mulching woody shrubs and small trees. I run mine on a Kubota KX040-4 and it devours 2.5 - 3 inch soft wood trees like Douglas Fir and will do a 2.5 inch hard wood Maple with ease. Clearing old logging roads that are ten years over grown is the perfect chore.

This attachment has met and exceeded my expectations. It is extremely well built and handles hidden objects and rough conditions with no issues. We have owned it for several years and have put hundreds of hours on it.

I have owned the Eterra EX-30 for almost 4 years and have it attached to my Kubota KX040-4 mini ex. It works great for what I bought it for, which was to keep the banks of my ponds and dams cut down. It’s mostly very light brush and weeds, so there is no problem cutting. You just have to take your time and get the job done. I do have one suggestion though. This past week I’ve been using the EX-30 to clear along the banks of a large creek as the small trees and brush had grown so much over the last few years, we couldn’t even seek the creek anymore. The EX-30 on the mini ex is perfect since I can reach down the steep banks 8 feet or so. I have the thumb saddle with the EX-30 and have been using that to grab small trees and pull them out of the ground since it is faster than grinding them down. The ground is fairly soft being along the creek, but some of the trees have a long tap route going down. The mounting plate is only attached to the EX-30 with four 1/2” bolts. Twice now I’ve been pulling a tree out and the bolts holding the mounting plate have popped off. I would strongly suggest Eterra add many more bolts to hold the mounting plate on. They do this with the thumb saddle as there are probably around ten to twelve bolts holding that on and it get less torque than the mounting plate does. My mounting plate is now bent at the corners as a result and I’m going to have to try and take sledge hammer to the base fo the mounting plate to try and flatten it out so I can re-attaché it to the EX-30.

Hi Doug, We appreciate the review of the EX-30 and are glad to hear the mower has been so helpful for your work around the pond and creek. We've spoken with Eterra about your design suggestion and think you would be interested to hear their response. The thumb saddle is not meant for pulling, but simply picking up loose material/debris. The 4 bolts that hold the mounting plate on is actually a designed/built-in failure point, which saves the mower frame from damage that could occur from this kind of work. Unfortunately the mower is simply not designed to function as a root rake, as convenient as that would be. We'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this! Please note that we do sell root rakes for mini ex if you are planning on doing this kind of work often. All the best, Skid Steer Solutions

I really appreciate the help from your team. The sizing of this unit fits the Kubota U35 very well. The unit arrived earlier than expected and allowed me to start early on my first project. I was able to eat through approximately 150'x15' of heavy South Texas brush in about an hour. The only complaint I have with the unit is the hydraulic lines kept getting caught on the brush and working their way loose. Additional guards on the lines would help. Overall very happy.

Hey Joe, Thanks for taking the time to review the EX-30 Brush Cutter! We're glad to hear how happy you are with the unit. As far as the hyd lines getting caught, you may benefit from these hose springs that we offer: https://www.skidsteersolutions.com/hose-spring-eterra/ Give us a call to see how they would work with your machine/attachment set up! It does require a bit more oil volume at the pressure required to make it work well on our Cat 303.5 produces. We can't swing uphill while mowing. Not a big deal, just have to get used to stopping the mower when you swing uphill, and then mow downhill.
