The company did replace the item but in my view it shouldn’t have needed replacement after only lasting a short time.”

“...there are some drawbacks. For example, I do Uber, Lyft, and Amazon Flex. I'm constantly getting in and out of my car, and so I have to carry a power pack so that even if my phone needs to charge, I can stay mobile. Well one day, in a shuffle to get out the door, I forgot my static cable. Well when my phone finally went into battery saving mode, I had to grab one of my USB-C cables, but didnt realize until i tried to plug it in that I still had the Static Type-C connector plugged into my power port. So I'm now driving the car, with a rider in the back, and this all happens and I can't navigate until I get it resolved. I was forced to pull over and take my phone out of it's case (the only way I can seem to get the thing out of there), and then I was able to continue working. A minor inconvenience, but a painfully embarrassing one.”

Regarding the magnetic tips, that's the main idea, one should not remove the tips in order to keep them convenient, spare their device port from wearing out over time, and protect them from dirt debris.
Also, if it was easy to remove you would easily lose the magnetic tips.
