How's the Blade?
How are the Handle and Fittings?
This sword is a masterpiece! A splendid combination of style and function, Citadel’s Dragon Katana will satisfy equally those looking for an excellent cutter and a refined work of art. The blade is magnificently polished. The contrast of the frosty hamon and the shadowy area underneath, gives the blade a similar appearance to a nihonto made of folded steel. The ray skin on the saya is smoothly applied, providing both style and protection from the sharp blade cutting through the saya. I tested the blade’s cutting ability on a somewhat thick cardboard tube. I do not have a proper cutting stand, so I sat the tube on a cylinder block. Since there was nothing holding the tube onto the block, I expected the sword to knock it off, but I wanted to see if the blade might cut into the tube a bit. First swing, the tube went flying off the stand, as expected. Still, the blade did manage to bite into it a little. My edge alignment was off, so I tried it once more. Again, the tube flew off the stand, but this time in two pieces. The blade struck a different spot yet still managed to cut through the unsecured tube. The cons: these are minor compared to the pros. The tsuba came slightly loose. The black sageo, included in the canvas travel bag the sword comes in, is a bit thick and hard to slide into the shitodome, which comes glued into the kurigata. I could not manage to get it through via the normal method of wrapping paper around the edge of the sageo and sliding it in. It was too thick. I had to cut the sageo at an angle such that a segment could easily fit through, then vigorously pull. This sageo is very sturdy. Overall, the sword is highly impressive: the finest sword I own. For those looking for a sword that looks exceptional and cuts like a laser, this one is worth considering.
