How's the Blade?
How are the Handle and Fittings?
The blade itself looks to be of decent quality, and the handle construction feels solid with two screw in mekugi and no wiggle on the tsuba or any other fittings. Metal mekugi is a plus. The main point of worry is the saya, which is very, very thin. Certain techniques might snap right through the mouth of the saya. The koiguchi is additionally very loose upon delivery, and the blade draws like it's been used for several years already. I will need to shim it right out of the box. A plus is that the blade comes sharp enough for basic cutting, and the balance is very forgiving. The blade itself is amazingly light. There is also no play or rattling anywhere in the handle, although with how thin it is my instructor had worries about the material shattering on more arduous cuts. Additionally, given how thin the handle is, a dojomate had concerns that the tang might not reach all the way across the two mekugi. I myself am worried that the blade might be partially a rat tail tang, and that the second mekugi is for aesthetic only. Only cutting with it will be able to tell for sure. You do get what you pay for. But I have hopes that the blade itself will be acceptable.
