“I purchased the course at the recommendation of several friends, but was afraid it wouldn’t work for our son. Not only is he pretty stubborn, but he always resisted being laid down in his bassinet (or crib) to sleep. He’d start crying as soon as we laid him down, whether he was “drowsy but awake” or fully asleep. Eventually it got to where not only did we have to co-sleep (which I didn’t plan to do), but I had to be in bed with him starting at 7pm and stay there all night. This also lead to frequent night feedings. All that to say, we were in a bad spot and I was afraid there was no way out. I finally got the courage to try sleep training when he was 8 months old. The first night was absolutely terrible, and I wasn’t sure I’d make it. But then the second night he cried half the time before falling asleep, then half again the third night. It was less than a week before he was falling asleep within 5 minutes consistently, with mostly fussing rather than crying. We chose to keep a night feed, but the weaning went better than expected too. Consistency is definitely key! But also, you know your baby. Don’t forget hunger is also a physical need, and you may have to ignore the 10 minute rule sometimes if your baby is like mine.”
