“We stayed 2 nights at site E and we loved it! We would 100% recommend this experience! Site E is about 1/4 of a mile from the parking area. We brought a utility wagon to transport our bedding and supplies and so glad we did. The solar shower was not great as the tube kept coming off and we had to hang it from a tree. I had better luck using a bucket for washing and heating water over the fire in a camp kettle. The bed is very comfortable! Site E felt the most private because it’s perpendicular to the mail trail, most of the other tents faced the trail. We could sleep with the just the screen zipped since no one could really see into the tent. The toilet was easy to use and worked pretty well.
Nathan, the camp manager, was super helpful and we just texted him if we needed anything like another bundle of firewood or more water. We had no problem with any animals, no raccoons or bear sightings. There are quite a few bugs, but you are in the forest, so you’re in their habitat. There are trains that run periodically along the other side of the River. These didn’t bother us, we seemed to get use to them. They didn’t come through a ton, we still enjoyed being in this beautiful, natural area so much! We went hiking at the New River Gorge, which was only about 15-20 minutes away. I would love to come back to explore Hawks Nest SP more. It was so lovely! The road that you take from Anstead is gravel and narrow, but wow! The view of the waterfalls and creek were amazing!”
