“I hate giving bad reviews, it’s not something I do lightly. The address provided for the AirBnB address for Hawk’s Nest is inaccurate. We called the “host number” when we arrived at the obviously inaccurate location. The number I called actually directed me to Tentrr customer service and the woman read the location description verbatim. I asked to be directed to the host and she did connect me with him, I believe his name is Ryan. Ryan responded quickly and gave great directions to bring us to our site. However, it was a 15 min drive from where we were originally directed from the Tentrr provided instructions. The location was in the middle of nowhere. There is a train close by that was so loud and woke us up every 2 hours when it went by. I like the idea of Tentrr sites, it’s definitely convenient and nice to have a comfy bed set up for you. However, the location of this site, misdirection and noisy train resulted in a crappy experience.”
Hey there, thanks for your feedback here. Without honest reviews like yours, we wouldn't know where to improve. We are very sorry to hear that you had a less-than-ideal stay at one of our campsites. We are digging into where the disconnect lies in our directions to our campsites at Hawk's Nest, and appreciate you taking the time to let us know about this issue. We do know that the train can be a bit of a pain - unfortunately, this is out of our control, but we do make mention of it on our site listings just to try to make our campers aware that it could be an earsore. We're so sorry that it was for you!
Again, we apologize for the situation that occurred, but hope to see you out camping with us again soon!
Cheers!
The Tentrr Team
“My dad & I stayed in 1 of your tents. They r spacious. I was able to put a cot up beside the bed. We loved sitting on the deck & looking at the New River.
The portable toilet is a solid wood structure inside the tent with a room divider to give u privacy. They even have a shower bladder u fill with water.
The deck was solid wood. We loved our stay & Ryan was awesome. Anything we needed he was right there.
Train noisy at night but I got use to it. Great trip”
“Two things kept me from rating this site higher. The road down to the site is basically a single lane road, very curvy and steep at points. Definitely requires a certain type of vehicle for access. Secondly we had several trains through the night that sounded like they were coming through our tent. Other than that it was a nice site. Nice hosts as well.”

“It was a nice concept to stay in a yurt but the sound of the trains that came through multiple times all through the night were outrageously loud. We left a night earlier because we were not going to get a restful sleep. There is also a siren sound that happened multiple times assumingly from the dam but I don't know what it was for. It sounded like an emergency alert siren but there was no explanation or instructions on what to do when we heard it.
We thought this experience would be closer to "glamping" but I have stayed in campsites for half the price paid but I still had access to electricity and water as well as a bath house for bathroom and showers. I did appreciate the ability to text a number to coordinate our arrival/access/check in. It was way easier than calling when I had quick questions before we arrived. I suggest there be a place to hang the solar shower, like a pole or hook because we ended up having to stand on the picnic table to hold it up for each other in order to get the gravity enough for the water to come out.”
Hello Deanna,
I took all of your concerns into account. I've edited all descriptions to make guests aware of the trains and the dam siren being a thing that happens at this park. The only time you'd have to worry about the siren is at the bottom of the dam. It's just a warning to let people know more water is being released from the top. Most guests hang them from trees but I can look into alternative hanging methods if trees aren't present. I appreciate the feedback it helps better the sites and experience for all. If you have any other questions or concerns please reach out to me at hbowen@tentrr.com

“Pros: Tent was nice and the bed comfy. There were no leaks even though we had some rain. The small deck on the front of the tent has two nice Adirondack chairs. The area itself was also nice for hiking and fishing. Access to the campsite was flat and well maintained. The overall view is very nice. The trail behind the nature center was VERY cool. The walk was very easy and the views and access to Mill Creek were fantastic.
Cons: Walking to the campsite can be arduous if you do not bring a cart! Privacy can be an issue as some of the sites are within view of the others; the sites are also along a public trail. The camp shower would be alright IF there were a place to hang it; there is not. Also, there is no privacy screen for the shower. Please note that "water nearby" refers to a half-mile walk to the water access. It is located at the end of the parking area near the nature center. It IS potable water, though.
There are also trains that intermittently run on the other side of the river and the dam has sirens that also go off at various times so be prepared for this. There is a jet boat that runs about every hour which is not too loud but is noticeable.
Be prepared to drive a very smelly trash bag to the top of the mountain when your trip is over. I do not know why there is no dumpster for this in a more convenient area (the dumpster is in the MAINTENANCE area near the lodge).
If you decide to cook over the campfire, note that it is going to be a constant battle with that setup. I eventually disassembled the grill parts and sat the grate directly on top of the fire ring.
Finally, be careful of wasps. They like to build nests under the rain shield of the tent and the picnic table. There were none INSIDE of the tent; just on the outside.
Overall we would recommend these sites as a good camping trip. If you follow the advice given above, you will have an enjoyable time.”
