“Camypsite was great, just as it looks in the pictures. Quiet, private, just what we wanted! One thing we didn't like was that the address provided takes you to the park lodge, not the campsite, that has its own separate address and we spent 45 mins looking for our campsite (also met another couple who had been looking for their campsite for almost 2 hours). Another thing was, both nights we stayed there, in the middle of the night a car/truck would park facing our campsite with it's headlights on for 5-10 minutes...we think it was a park ranger but it still illuminated our whole tent waking us up both nights. But overall, it was a great trip and we loved staying here minus these couple things. Hiking down by the waterfalls was beautiful!”
“My wife and I absolutely loved it. Perfect spot there we loved was under the big rock at campsite. Everything stayed dry. We had tan on our second day and everything under big rock stayed dry all night. Was able to cook and have a fire in the dry. There was no heater or water cooler available like site G had but we made do.
We did have a few complaints. The weeds beside tent we very tall not giving you a view of creek beside it. May be there for privacy or too steep to knock it down. The other complaint possibly not parks fault. Both nights after midnight there would be a vehicle park at end of campsite with their high beams shining right into our tent. Frustrating when your trying to sleep. They’d set there for about 10 minutes then leave. Not sure why or who they were. Next time I’ll go find out.
Other than that the site was perfect. Very quiet. We knew the trains were running but not overwhelmingly loud like the other sites. Jet boat wasn’t a bother either. If you want to stay at hawks nest, this is the best one.”
“The tents and site were pretty much as described. The tents in the photos must be stock photos as they don’t look quite as nice inside but they’re clean, sturdy & functional.
A few things to be aware of:
We were warned of copperhead snakes in the area several times by folks. Never saw any but be aware. They also lock up the public bathrooms early & don’t open the park til 11 so be prepared to use the portable ones in the tent.
Also, they put a lock on the gate going into/coming out of the park but do NOT actually lock it. That caused a big headache when we were trying to leave the next morning & thought we were locked in. Our poor host was gracious enough to get out of bed & help…only for us to then realize the lock wasn’t ACTUALLY locked.
You also won’t have a cell signal in much of the area but can get one by standing on the dock to the jet boat.”
“5 of us had great time everything as listed but beware there is no swimming near the campsite and you can't see the creek or get to it from the campsite. The beds were comfy, they left large ice water coolers filled with fresh ice water, plenty of loo bags with the stuff that crystallizes your waste, and toilet paper provided. Tents large enough for the 1 person cot we brought with us so if you bring a cot then 3 people could fit in each tent.”
