The location of this place is magical. Right on the water and behind a waterfall you can hear/see throughout the stay. The river water is clean and warm (water comes from NC mountains). We brought our paddleboards and paddled right to the campsite. The tent was large enough to hangout out in the rain and the bed was comfortable. The dry storage was very convenient. Since it’s at the end of the path, it is private except for walkers on the path behind the site during the day. The toilet was better to use than expected but I’d imagine it would be awkward to use if you have someone camping with you that you’re not that close with. We didn’t end up using the shower since we were in the river so much. A con… the walk to the site is quite long. For the price, it’d be nice if a wagon were included and someone else collected trash after checkout. Trash drop off is not walkable and quite inconvenient to drive to. Also, nearest firewood for sale appears to be Exxon in Hico (and it’s not cheap).

Nice sites. Not completely clear on how to find and parking 15min away. The host was nice.

Had a great weekend at this site! It was very peaceful! We loved being next to the waterfall! Site is as described! The site is about 1/2 a mile from where you park. If you overpack like us, a wagon might useful! It’s an easy walk though!

The site is beautifully situated down by the lake with Turkey Falls and nice rock outcroppings. The access to the site is via a level trail approximately 1/2 mile near the end of a fisherman’s trail and portage area for the Hawks Nest Dam. We rode our mountain bikes, loaded with gear and a few bundles of firewood, to the site in a rainstorm without issue. For those traveling with kayaks or canoes you could easily paddle to this site. We really enjoyed how private the space feels being in a state park and loved the sound of the waterfall while sleeping. At night the lights of the dam illuminate the water and give the campsite a nice glow but not obtrusive at all (and we live on a large farm where we can’t see a light to any other houses, so we’re picky). Across the New River/lake is an active railroad which did run through the night on our stay. We enjoyed watching the cars pass in the distance While sitting by the fire and it didn’t really bother us during the night (about 5 trains in 12 hours). We really enjoyed having the tent setup especially in the rain. The mattress is comfortable (memory foam type) and there is plenty of camp amenities to make your stay comfortable. Our camp host was very responsive and offered to meet us at the lodge to help us get checked in. We visited the park earlier in the day before we checked in and got a map to our campsite. The road down to the site is beautiful, follows a rail trail and ends at the marina. Tons to do in the area for outdoor enthusiast. We would highly recommend!

We reserved Tentrr Site I for May 24-26. When we called we were told the site would be fully accessible for my husband who's in a wheelchair. However, there was a gate that was permanently closed that I had to bend him over and fold his wheelchair in half to barely get him through. Then the dam sirened all night keeping us awake. On top of that we were not made aware that construction would be going on which started in the very early hours of the morning, also not allowing us to sleep. The next morning we tried to go for a walk and the gate was locked with a sign that said "Walking trail closed. May not reopen until as late as June 30th" This left us with little to no options as all other trails were either gated off or not accessible. This caused us to have to leave on the 25th without staying a 2nd night. Chris, our guide was helpful and said he may be able to get a refund but we have not heard back yet.

Beautifully secluded spot, you can sleep to the sound of the waterfall that’s right by your tent. The dam is like, right there & if you’re there during a flood warning like I was, you’re going to hear a very loud alarm throughout your stay. The walk from parking is much longer than expected, pack light! All in all though, the place is magical. Beautiful forests, challenging but rewarding hikes. Communication from host is superb.

BYO- PILLOWS, SHEETS, BLANKETS, TP ETC!!!! Grrrr...not the most well- kept or accommodating tenttr site I've stayed in, but beautiful scenery and awesome park. Host Chris was very sweet. With a little TLC this will be a really cool spot tucked within the waterfalls.
