“My girlfriend and I had the best time at this beautiful site. The views were unreal and the tent placement under the tree was magical. John and his wife were so hospitable and helped us coordinate kayaking. We will definitely be back!”
“Stunning spot! This is a beautiful piece of earth and the site is directly under the largest Ash tree I've ever seen. Easy to find, very secluded and yet close to a cute little town. I highly recommend it.”
“The view from the deck of this campsite was amazing!! Some really spectacular walking trails around with great views of hobart. John was beyond helpful and accommodating, even gave us firewood! I cannot wait to return to this campsite!! Stove was a big plus, the tent was cozy warm all night!”
“The Lamports were excellent hosts. Very friendly and very helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area, hikes, food, events, etc. The campsite looks exactly as it is represented. A huge open field with great views mountains and a great sunset. The tent was comfortable and well acquainted.
To be clear, while you can drive your car to the site and you are a short drive (10 minutes or so) to town, it should be noted that this is real camping. No running water, no electricity. The Lamports provided a container of water for us to drink and wash up with. Showering means using the solar shower which is a plastic bladder you fill up and hang from a tree to warm in the sun. This was no problem for us, but before booking you should make sure that is ok with everyone in your party.
Russell's in the neighboring town of Bovina has an excellent breakfast sandwich and is a cute shop. The Coffee Pot in Hobart is also good for breakfast and closer to the site. I would check out both if you can.
TONS of antique shops and yard sales in the area.
Long story short: this is a very cool experience for those who are looking to escape the typical state-run campgrounds that are crowded and full of screaming children/college kids. All you will hear are the owls, the wind in the trees, some distant dogs, and the occaisonal moo from the diary farm.
So get your scary campfire stories ready, get a few friends and check it out!”
