Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“Super fun time at the highland rec area! A few things to note 1) Site K is on an incline/slant/slope. The tent itself is leveled, however, the surrounding campsite is not. The picnic table and fire pit area are all slanted, making it uncomfortable to sit on the picnic table benches (everyone in our group had back aches from the benches). Bring your own chairs (they will also be slanted but more comfy). 2) The bugs were TERRIBLE when I went (as expected) so bring a bug tent, bug spray, and candles or you will be confined to staying inside your tent most of the time. We were so so thankful to have a bug tent to put over the picnic/cabinet area. 3) There are no showers anywhere in the park, the DNR officer said we would have to drive to another park nearby to shower (at a price). 4) There is no running water near the site and the water pump near the sites did not have a handle on it so you could not use the old school water well to get water. There was at least hand sanitizer in the rustic bathroom out house that is closest to the campsites. 5) It is pet-friendly at the campsite and on the trails, however, if you want to enjoy the beach (which is located in a different area than the camp sites) dogs are not allowed at the beach. 6) bring your own treated firewood and ice. The main office does have both for purchase, however, their hours are limited and there is no guarantee that someone will be at the office (officers are out and about in the park most of the time). 7) the trail to the sites J, K and L are on an active hiking/biking trail, so there are people coming and going through the day/ early morning.
We had a great time! Just wanted to share my experience so others can be prepared! There are a ton of horses around the park, there is a certain camping area for people to bring their horses. Probably about 20 or more horses all camping out for the weekend, it was a cool experience! State Park Officers were around and checked in on us every now and then, very respectfully. Nice to know someone is there in case you need anything.”
“we had such an enjoyable stay. Our group reserved all 3 Tentrr sites. We had a lot of rain and the tents stayed dry. Beds are very comfortable.
Tentrr people super responsive to inquiries and helpful.
Tons of mosquitos...
4 star not 5, bathroom facilities very lacking. Vault toilets for the park system were full of buzzing insects. Wasps? Bees? also loads of flies. The flush toilets are 1/3 mi walk at beach. (Tentrr is private organization, not run by the park).
Beach area for park is really very nice.”
“My first Tentrr experience! Very good- and great for camping with my 4 yr old.
A couple of notes about this site specifically:
1) site K is right off of the main parking lot- lots of traffic, both road and foot, all night long. Bummer.
2) pit toilet about 1/4 mile from the site. Hard to manage with a 4 yr old.
3) mid july= lots of mosquitoes at this site. Come prepared for battle with the blood suckers!”
“The Tentrr tent was extremely sturdy/rainproof and roomy enough to fit all of our belongings, including a bicycle. We were glad for a lock on the tent. While the tent itself is built on a level wood platform, Eleanor's Tea Tent is on a slope so that sitting in a circle around the fire is impossible and there is also a sharp (but short) incline to go to and from the tent to the outhouse. Eleanor's Tea tent is very close to the parking lot and the trail to the other tents, but we experienced very little disruption. While there was no view of Teeple Lake from the tent itself, it was a short walk past the outhouse to a bench with an overlook of the lake. We found out later that the host referred to in Tentrr emails was not the park office, but an individual hired by Tentrr.”
“It was probably my mistake, but I didn't realize how close we were to the parking lot. The picture that goes with this site makes it look like the lake is visible right behind the tent, but it's actually the parking lot for the boat launch, so we were disturbed by cars. I would suggest going with sites J or L instead-- they are deeper into the woods and more private.
Other than that, it's a nice state rec area and Teepl Lake is very pretty (although beware of noisy bullfrogs keeping you awake at night).”
Hey there, thanks for your feedback here. Without honest reviews like yours, we wouldn't know where to improve. We are very sorry to hear that you had a less-than-ideal stay at one of our campsites. We do hope to see you back to try out sites J or L so that you can experience the exclusion that you were looking for. Thank you for camping with Tentrr!
“What a great little slice of nature. First off let me say wow. Super short walk from the parking lot( not all sites here can say that) but true camping in the woods. Most campgrounds there may be a few trees but this site is the woods. My wife and I could not have been happier with this stay. Miles of walking, biking and even equestrian trails to explore. A nice small lake to kayak on. Did I mention the history? As long as you like rustic camping this should be a must visit location. I will say a word of caution, for the two of us this site was perfect but if you have a full group of six I would feel a bit cramped around the campfire. This site is on a slope but not bad for relaxing. The tent itself is on a wood deck with a small porch equipped with a pair of Adirondack chairs. It was great spending time just relaxing, watching the chipmunks play, and hearing the birds sing. Also the bugs were almost nonexistent. So to sum it up definitely a great little getaway.”
