“WOW. Consider yourself lucky if you're able to book this! There was literally nothing we would have changed about the experience. It's such a special, spacious spot and the hosts have thought of all the important details and then gone and added extra touches (our kids were entranced by the colored flame packet!). We had a whole mix of weather while we were there, but our fire stayed lit (well-designed stones, plenty of tinder) and a steady breeze kept the bugs at bay. We took advantage of the cabin option and our kids were in heaven! (It's also insulated from early-morning birdsong ; ) Even the porta-potty is ingenious.
All the things that can irk you about camping (bugs, noisy neighbors, icky latrines--none of that was here!). And Claire herself was communicative, kind, and kept things simple. Such a great change of scenery--and way fewer ticks than Southern Maine! We found a single one on the dog in a 48hr stay. Our kids also really enjoyed plane spotting--lots of cute little vintage planes fly in and out of the Owls Head airport, but only during daylight hours.
Don't forget to indulge in an Owl's Head General Store Seven Napkin Burger on your way out of town!”
“One of the best camping spots and experience we’ve ever had! Stayed one night and wished we had booked for longer. Beautiful location, so much space and privacy and the view of the water was spectacular. Claire was a wonderful host and brought us three lobsters to cook over the fire that were delicious. The place was clean, and full of thoughtful touches to make sure you have everything you need. We will definitely be back!”
“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this tent, Claire was very quick and helpful with her responses to my questions.
There is about a mile of driving in a gravel road to get to the tent, definitely recommend try to get there at daylight.
There were a lot of personal touches that made the tent space one of a kind, from the fall decorations in front to the gift basket that had the best blueberry jam and chocolate bar by the bed.
As stated in other reviews make sure to pack up extra blankets, we turned the tent wood stove onthe first night and it smoked so much as it was finishing with the first log that we decided to keep it off and just double on blankets and we did that for our second night too.
There were plenty of water and firewood provided by our host and the outdoor wood stove setup was perfect for every meal.
The toilet setup was nice and smelled great all the times, we didn’t try the outdoor shower it being October and all.
There is a nice trail about half a mile from the tent but for other hikes you have to drive to trailheads, definitely recommend the owl’s head lighthouse which is 5miles long and also 5 miles drive to get to the trailhead.”
“Great location on the water with a perfect view. Access to kayaks to take out on the water and explore some of the nearby islands is a great touch. The site is on a lot a land that can be explored which is very quite and relaxing. Extremely comfortable bed. Quick drive into Rockport of you're looking for any restaurants or take out. I would 110% recommend!”
