“Wow! This location is stunning and the drive is just as nice. It was the perfect break from the city. You will wake up to sweeping mountain views and behind you is a forest. We were so happy to have selected this site. John was very communicative and fast to respond. The directions were very easy to follow and we found the site no problem. We will definitely be coming back in the fall. Couple of tips: you will not have service once you leave Margaretville or Hobart so you will need to take screen shots of where you want to go before getting to the campground. On the way back we stopped at the Phoenicia Diner and it doesn't disappoint.”
“This is a gorgeous Tentrr location!...surrounded by picturesque mountains, meadows & trees. It is totally isolated, no noise, no cell phone signal, no electricity, just the basics....which we loved!! It was awesome & relaxing to just soak-in the views, enjoy the nature & breathe-in fresh mountain breeze. Getting to the top of the mountain was a little bit of a fun & adventure...4 wheel drive is a must.
On the down side...
We had some difficulty finding the campsite...the directions given on the website did not quite match what was actually there. And there were no markers either on the roads that would provide some sort of indication whether or not we were on the right track. After circling around the unpaved track & driving into other private properties for a couple of times, we ended up going to the owner's house to get proper directions.
The camp site was equipped with all the camping gear as indicated on website. However, the the storage cabinets, where all the stuff was stored, were infested with bugs & insects (which wasn't surprising given the remote location of the campsite). We were 4 of us and wanted to use the extra tent provided, but because of the bugs, we didn't bother taking it out. Luckily, the main tent is big enough to accommodate 2 queen sized air mattresses & more. So, we were good!
The website also indicated that there would be a 5 gallon water container...instead we found only a 2.5 gallons container, & there was no water in the outdoor sun shower either. So, we had to adapt to the water shortage. Luckily, we carried our own drinking water as well.
Lastly, the dining bench could use a little bit of maintenance (needs shrubs trimmed & bugs removed from underneath).
All-in-all, we were in the outdoors...so, really enjoyed our stay with all that the camp site had to offer! We can definitely see ourselves coming back to this beautiful location during fall!”
“Great site!! Although a camping shower was not present, we adapted and overcame. Everything else is pleasant. There was a shooting range about 20 min away and a convenience store about 10 . At this site you are far enough not to be bothered but close enough if you need anything small you may have forgotten. Josh was always available for he is down the hill but we did not bother him much. We couldn't find any of the other amenities available but our goal was to get away from city life. It was accomplished. Thanks Josh! We will visit again.”
“We had a great and fun experience at Mountainside. The forecast was announcing dropping temperatures and snow for the weekend. We thought of canceling it, but after we confirmed with Tentrr that they had installed a camping stove inside the tent we kept our plans. It was pretty cold, lots of snow and a very windy night, but we had a great time. We were prepared for a wintery camping adventure with lots of double layers, heavy blankets, woodfire, hot drinks. For sure it was not your everyday camping experience, but the tent was pretty sturdy and resistant to the weather conditions. Actually the whole infrastructure provided was good. Basic, but with all the basics needed. On sunday we woke up to a very sunny day with melting snow and a stunning view of the mountain and all the different colors of the foliage contrasting with the blue sky. As a result we had tons of pictures and practically 2 different mountain experiences in only one weekend. John was very helpful whenever we had questions previously to our trip as well as the people of Tentrr that were always there to help make our trip fun and stress free.
We are now looking forward for the next one.
- the site is beautiful. It is up the hill, with a great view, but because of the weather and snow the car would not go up the hill. So a 4x4 is recommended. Be aware that cellphone signal may be bad (in our case T-mobile) in the catskill area, so printed maps can be very helpful to get around.”
“Great visit to Mountainside for our first time out with Tentrr. Beautiful site and eastern mountain views - lots of sky and stars. Our host John provided all the direction and help we needed to settle in for the night.
The site is rather steep and a AWD vehicle is a must to get up the hill, fairly light off roading but requires a little clearance, the path is well cut. The climb is rewarded with an excellent vista and remote camp site to enjoy. Took along a couple young kids and they had a blast in the woods behind and around the compact site.
Would definitely go back anytime.”
