“I love these things. They look good, they stay out of the way. They work... well. The thing is, for anything north of $50 for collars, I'd expect it to be perfect and even increase my squat weight.
The rubber on the inside makes it a lot less smooth than you'd think sliding on and off the bar. The magnet is not strong enough for you to just slap it anywhere on the rack and expect it to stay, but strong enough that it will slide change plates off the bar with it and then drop them if you're not paying attention.
The two big reasons it looses rating though: When I deadlift or squat heavy enough to have bar whip, they slide more than I'm comfortable with. The biggest reason is that I still find myself happier and feel safer using my old $30 spring loaded collars.”
