“Reading the website blog extensively both before and after purchase and speaking as someone who couldnt cut a piece of wood straight if his life depended on it, I found the prospect of building my Chloe quite daunting. If you harbour any doubts, the best single piece of advice on the website is the one relating to trust and misplaced trust. I completely agree with the article encouraging trust of Tuin manufacturing standards rather that trusted local tradesmen. My Chloe is constructed on a wooden base set on 12 timber frame base pads (please see my review on these pads for details). After installing the half logs front and back, I started to build up the walls. Now, I have to say that I was building in ideal conditions. The flatpack had been on site for a week and had been subject to lots of rain, but the only thing which wasnt bone dry was the instructions! I was building in July on a very warm day (22C). With that caveat out of the way, I have to say that this cabin went together easier than Lego. This is not hyperbole. This particular cabin can only be assembled in two ways depending on whether you want the door to the right of the window or vice versa. Other than that everything will only assemble in one way- the right one. The rubber mallet was a very useful tool, but I didnt need to use it as often or as enthusiastically as the guys on the general construction video. The wall were up and the purlings in place after 4 hours. AND it was square and level throughout. I cant help thinking that its a good idea to check a wooden base for integrity throughout construction of your cabin. In my case, it didnt move a millimetre, and no-one was more astonished than I. Order and build with confidence .This is a top quality product and building it is easy. Now, if youll excuse me, I need to go and fit the shingles.”
“Delivery right on schedule and put on my driveway by the magic fork truck where it had to stay until I had finished the timber base. Assembly was straightforward with some reliance on 'brute force and ignorance' to 'persuade' the odd twist and warp to engage. A broken door window was sorted by Tuin immediately. Very solid and good looking. Some minor observations: The doors cannot be assembled in accordance with drawing 3 without the help of 2 strong men or a crane, the doors are just too heavy. This configuration of doors to the left of the window and the right door having the handle needed a door stop to prevent the handle impacting on the window. From a security standpoint I do not like external hinges. It is not possible to mount the window in Chloe any higher. Aesthetically the top line of the door and window ought to match. Brass coloured hinges with satin steel door furniture and black window fastener look odd. The ridge shingles needed longer clouts as they were going through 4 thicknesses. I made a mistake putting the roof on as I had seen the tongue and groove flooring was symmetrical and wrongly assumed that the roof was the same so I had fitted about 15 boards before I noticed the asymmetry. Rather than remove and start again I laid all the remaining boards the same way. I ought to have laid them the other way up to present a flat surface to the shingles and not one with the valley profiles. If you can make a colour decision when ordering ( I wasn't allowed to) have Tuin paint it before delivery. It needs at least one coat of preservative and two coats of good quality timber paint which is expensive and time consuming. We are both really impressed by the build standard and would recommend Tuin to anyone. Excellent value for money.”
