“I've bought a number of different tubes from Upscale and 3 different Kevin's stash tubes that I was hoping would be dead silent but there was some hiss on the right channel.. and I have cleaned the pins and still have a small amount of hiss.. I have found that the platinum version has less hiss in my amplifier.. this is still a great tube....”

“I started with a pair of GL 12AU7s and compared it to the GE Jan 6189W I got earlier for my Primaluna HP, both tubes being the same price. After more than 100 hours i find that Gold Lion has mode definition, detail and bass that the GE, and it better suits my taste. I still prefer the Brimar 4003 as leading pair but the GL is the best second choice for me.”

“Upscale is great and I will continue to do business with them. This tube may sound great in your preamp but caveat emptor if you are using it with the PS Audio BHK Pre! These tubes caused my PS Audio BHK Pre to whine when turned on from standby. None of the other brands I have tried including 12AU7s from Psvane, RAM Tubeworks, and 2 sets of GE 6189W (bought from Upscale) had this problem. My conclusion is that there is an idiosyncratic compatibility with this tube (or batch of tubes) the Pre does not like.”
