This is by far the most expensive cartridge I've ever owned. I've only recently gone back to listening to vinyl since going digital in the late 80's. I was still clinging onto my beloved Shure V15 Type IV, and recently replaced it with a new JICO stylus. I was able to audition a Hana SL from a friend and it blew away my Shure cartridge in performance. It gave me the confidence that the ML must be better than the SL, so I took the plunge and went for the ML without listening to it first. I can't say it is much better than the SL, not like how the SL improved on the Shure. But I'm definitely very happy with this cartridge. It has a lot of mid and high end detail with solid bass. I paired this with a Vincent PHO 701 phono stage, and has a nice warm tone overall. Highly recommended.

So far out of the gate this cartridge has been a nice upgrade to my system at a nice price point. I was looking for value and I think I found it.

An excellent cartridge. Sound is open and detailed. It’s installed in a system with vacuum tube front end and solid state amps. A true value.

Note this was an up grade over a Dynavector 10 x 5 MK2. I was referred to this cartridge from Kat. That lead me to read several reviews. There is one thing that was consistent over several articles and that was that this cartridge ranked with other cartridges that were twice as expensive. Although the more expensive cartridges have an edge over one characteristic or another, over all this ranked as an excellent value competing with the other choices that cost more. Hence after doing my research I decided to go with Hana ML. I must say this was almost the smallest single investment I put into my system that had such a huge impact on improving the vinyl experience. I am using a VPI Prime Scout table and a KC Vibe. This cartridge seems to smooths out some of the over modulation there is on some records and makes it much more enjoyable, The highs and the mid ranges are so smooth, and the sound stage begins to open up nicely as you approach the 50 hour break in. However, I do feel that the Dynavector has a nicer bass response, but that did improve some as I reached the 50 hour break in period. Although the Dynavector 10 x 5 Mk2 is an improvement over the standard 10 x 5, the Hana is in a totally different class, which goes along with the increased price tag. However, it mates well with the VPI table and in retrospect, I wish I went from the Dynavector 10x 5 directly to the Hana ML, skipping the Mk2. I am not knocking the Mk2 at all, but if you have a table and phono pre amp that will take the low output Hana ML, I feel waiting and saving for the extra bucks, is worth the wait to buy the Hana ML cartridge. I feel the Hana ML is an excellent combination with the VPI Prime Scout and KC Vibe. Some records now blow me away in sound!
