I am the original owner of this classic preamp, and know it's sound all too well. The preamp is only used with a JRiver set up and an Oddessey Khartago amplifier and Jade 3 speakers. Installing the new Mullards (premium grade and cryogenic) into the line stage section worked wonders over the standard tubes specified by AR. Since the source is digital, there was a noticeable improvement in the mid frequencies. Pretty amazing actually... more detail and a smoother sounding image. More subtle improvements also at lower and higher frequencies. I highly recommend this tube as it has far exceeded my expectations, especially for the price.

Kevin Deal is the real deal!...No pun intended ...but his tubes are just what he says they will do. This reissue Mullard platinum tube with an NOS Telefunken ecc83 has really brought my amp back to its original sound, due to his attention to detail testing equipment practices.

I bought a pair of this tubes plus a pair of MULLARD CV4003 / 12AU7 VINTAGE NEW OLD STOCK for my Primaluna Prologue 4 which drives Totem Rainmaker speakers. For my taste Primaluna stock tubes were sounding a bit edgy, especially in the upper midrange and in higher frequencies, voices were noticeably unnatural and I would even call original Primaluna sound too bright. Well, what can I say about Mullard tubes? I confess I was a bit skeptical and did not expect from new tubes noticeable improvement right away out of box. I was thinking: well... be prepared for long 100 hours of uncomfortable listening sessions before tubes break in and before you get the sound you are looking for... I was totally wrong! The sound with these tubes simply incredible! Voices became so lively and natural, micro details improved, sound stage became deeper, instrument separation and 3D-imaging is also remarkably better. I highly recommend these tubes for Primaluna amplifier owners! They really help to open up the hidden potential of Primaluna amplifier. P.S. I bought platinum grade with cryogenic treatment.

I have a Jolida tube DACll that was modified at the parts connection with DH labs silver sonic wire, etc. but was shipped with Tung Sol 12ax7's. Not being a tube guy I wrote to Upscales Tube Guru and he suggested the Mullard 12ax7's. What a difference! Now my system, Marantz cd,Parasound pre, Parasound amp's and Martin Logan Sequil ll, is more dynamic and three d than ever!! If you have the option go for the Cryo treatment. The guys at Upscale KNOW tubes, and equipment. I told them what I have, and the suggested tube was spot on!! Thanks Upscale Audo. Chris T TX.

I installed 4 of the Mullards in my Trace elliot V4 bass amp in the pre amp section, & they sound great. They required a little break in time, but perform flawless. These tubes have Great tone & response along with powerful mid range. I'm pleased.

After using a pair of Gold Lion 12ax7's for a year, I decided to try something different and settled on the Mullards. Boy was I in for a surprise! The GL are a much brighter tube, but the Mullards are much more rich in the mids...have excellent bass response and the top end while being a little softer are still extended. The overall presentation is sweeter and are a very good march for my Canton Vento's with the ceramic tweeters. My tubed preamp is a Vincent SA-T1 and boy this thing sounds really good with the Mullards. My Turntable has never sounded so good.

Not being a tube roller I entrusted Kevin to recommend replacement tubes for my 20 year old Conrad Johnson PV10a, the phono section had become noisy and unlistenable. Thes Mullards replace the Philips JAN that were provided by CJ. Well the upgrade in sound is amazing. I am now hearing clean tight bass I never heard before, the midrange is warm and natural. There is depth and dimensionality I never expected to hear from my very modest Thorens 320 with AT 150ML. And to my very pleasant surprise the background noise I previously heard is gone. Best of all the replacement tubes were the same price as I paid CJ 12 years ago for far worse results. Thank you Kevin.

As seen in a lot reviews of this tube, it does have a touch of the Mullard NOS tubes, very smooth mid-range, but they are different tubes. The re-issue is rather on the cold side in my system. It did a two channel test in my Pro-Ject phono box se II, it sounds rather close to the stock tube of the phono box, just a little bit flatter. I paried two of these tubes with a Mullard NOS 12au7 in EAR 834P for pre-classical music. Perfect match! A very good combination a little bit of coldness and smoothness.
