I have an older model VPI classic and just added the ADS system. I played my Kind of Blue UHQR and wow it was like I have a new turntable. Rock solid speed control makes a huge difference on a Jazz album like this. I am very happy with it.

This is an addendum to previous impression. One thing that is irritating is the slow start with 45s. With the ADS in play, the unit first starts up in 33 rpm mode, then waits for something like 10 seconds before revving up to 45 rpm. Accordingly, I cannot turn on the motor with ADS, then move tone arm over and release lever, but have to wait for around 10 seconds before lowering needle/stylus/tone arm. Not sure what VPI was thinking, but it sure makes no practical sense. Or is it defective?

Works as advertised. Speed adjustments are slight, maybe 5 degrees off center. Turning TT on and off is a bit more convenient with front button on ADS than side switch on the VPI motor. Maybe a bit overpriced for what it does, but went in hook line and sinker on a package deal.

Kat recommended the ADS as an upgrade to my VPI Scout and I could not be happier with this purchase. I’ve been driving my Scout with it for several months and have found that it has helped improve the table’s overall bottom end, mid base and imagining. Additionally, and perhaps most profound has been an improvement in both the sense of pace and stability in tone - most noticeable in recordings with piano (Keith Jarrett’s The Melody At Night, With You had an improved presence, tone and stability...outstanding) and quieter acoustic music. Incidentally, I’ve read in the VPI forums some complaints regarding noisy ADS systems, my unit is super quiet and runs beautifully. Thanks Kat and Upscale/Kevin.
