Really good product. Only thing I would mention is that the measurement for the kerf slot in very dependent upon how accurate the hole depth is drilled. After the first one I wound up measuring the slot distance for each kerf individually. I had the drill press set exactly the same for each piece, but the distance was not the same on any of the boards. However In do think these make great gifts.

I had to set up a jig to get the hole drilled, off just a little, had to make the kerf just a tad deeper to let the wire clear. This particular kit only had one wire so had to go back to replace the wire that broke on instalation. Came in a set of 4. My family loves it. My only suggestion is an extra wire in the kit and maybe some kind of drill guide. I will make a drill guide for my next one.

I farked up and took the thickness just past 3/4" to 11/16". Can I still use that board to put this on it?

Thanks for the question, You may be ok with 11/16. It is helpful to mock this up on piece of scrap material beforehand to assess any potential issues. The position of the hole is relative to the depth of the slot.

These cheese slicer kits make a great project and gift! I have some suggestions for making. 1. When sawing the kerf, I put a couple of small blocks 1/4” or so on one side of my table saw saw sled to make the front groove less deep. Then the handle won’t hit the counter when cutting cheese. 2. I made a jig from 2 pieces of hardboard glued to a 3/4” x 1-1/2” x 6” and drilled a hole 5” up To index the hole For the rod. I started the hole with a regular bit then switched to a long bit to complete. I drilled 1/8”Less than the directions. 3. In order to get the rod past the wire loop, I cut a little deeper on that side than directed on a second half pass. Get some extra wires as it is easy to break one. They are easy To Replace. I used wire cutters to cut off the tiny nib on the winding so the wire would not bind on either side. I made 8 in a couple of days. Good luck!

I have made six of these the first was for personal use and the others were for Christmas Gifts for my daughters and Wedding Gifts. All of them were loved by the receivers. There is a learning curve with them at least for the beginners (like me as this was my first woodworking project kit). I have been making them now without much problem now. I would suggest using your first kit as a practice unit and making it out of cheap scraps of wood. The nice thing about doing this is the device can be taken apart and then installed on a good piece of wood and you will have a great Cheese Slicer.
