I bought 10 of these to had out for gifts. The direction worked well for me. There are a few tweaks I did to make the assembly easier. Before I assembled the arm into the board I filed a small taper to the end of the rod that accepts the wire loop. I also squeezed down the round open loop to make it more oval shaped to drop down into the 1/4 hole. For the final step to line up the wire to the board slot I had to increase the u shaped bend in the bar by about a 1/4 inch. Simple adjustments for an easy gift.

These cheese slicers are very popular with all my relatives and customers as well. They are easy to make if you have a long 1/4 inch drill bit. I highly recommend them. Grandpa Al’s Workshop

I have made a number of these. After I got thru the first one learning curve the others have been easy to finish. Have to deepen where the rod and wire connect but all goes well.

I had the same difficulty as others, getting the longer arm past the wire loop into the board with a 1/4" hole. I enlarged the hole to 17/64" and tapered the end of the arm with a dremel and it then worked. This should definitely be re-enginered

I somewhat agree with some of the negative comments. however, after I made the first board, my second board was much easier. I tweaked the directions a little bit, the second board I made in one third the time. As many of us now, woodworking is not an exact science.

I read some pretty negative reviews AFTER I purchased a couple of these kits which gave me cause for concern. After putting the kits together, all I can guess is the negative reviews were assembling the unit incorrectly. The bend of the arms lined up perfectly, the slicer wire fit as it should. All said, this is a quality unit I expect to give years of service.

I am fairly new to woodworking and thought this would be a good starter kit for my first one from Woodcraft. I was blown away the way it turned out. I have plans on doing a number of these for Christmas gifts. It was fun, easy, looks great and a great starter project kit, but good for the more experienced woodworker as well.
