Lee Child's divergents/tangents, as he puts it, were remarkable in how insightful they were. I would let him talk my ear off before he ever had to weave into a point. I came across one of his books as a gift when I was a teenager. In-where I could imagine Jack as my dad who was an MP himself, and having the series impact my decision to join the military myself. At the time, I wouldn't have considered myself a reader─ though his writing style showed that I didn't dislike books─ just that most books were, for lack of a better word, shit. Which in turn, allowed me to appreciate his lesson on knowing what; I don't like about someone's writing. Say like journalists loving to start their column with the weather or what their damned office looks like─ coupled with the taste of whatever latte they decided to order from some 'artisan barista' to start their day. Tell me again what the skyline looks like. Like I give a shit, I clicked some title-bait about a family of seven being blown up in Yemen. It's not like the writer even uses it as juxtaposition (which I still wouldn't care for), and their lives are not as interesting as someone like Hunter S. Thompson. So. Stop it. I feel like in some prints of the NY Times, I could discern the layout of their entire office. Sheesh. The course in general, also provided a fantastic pulse on the industry in a holistic sense.

It's clearly presented. It comes across as straightforward, but some of the concepts are ones that are difficult to master, made more complicated because authors are so inconsistent over execution of many aspects of the craft :-)

I enjoyed hearing about Lee's personal experiences as a writer, especially from the inception of his writing career. The course was well structured, particularly in the way it focussed on his two first books at the beginning of the course, with the later parts of the course progressing to his more recent books. Lee gives excellent examples of what he is talking about, including using his own writing. I found the examples to be very useful. The course notes are great and closely reflect the video content and key points, which means I won't feel like I've lost significant content after I can no longer access the videos. The exercises in the notes are great too.
