“I found this course very encouraging and challenging. As someone who has written lyrics for 50 years and occasional music it showed a way forward.
It was particularly strong for me on the "why" rather than the "how" of songwriting although there is plenty of the latter.

“It took a while to get started but he did warn that he was trying to inspire rather than explain how to write songs. I recommend sticking to the end to see the process he uses to develop songs. I have written songs but not in the way he does and that was interesting. I have always found that spending time with people who know what they are talking about somehow helps me to improve almost by a process of osmisis. I got some of that from this course but also some practical ideas about what to try next. Definately worth spending the time but some sections are a bit boring”

“I feel like this course is best for someone who is a fan of his and wants to know about his journey and process of making musisc or someone who is an absolute beginner in making or persuing music. I feel like a lot of the advice is just really abstact or so basic it's not going to be useful for many. But, I will say, I do think there is value in hearing how people got started in their business and his expierence with it, but there's a lot of just that. I think there's also a lot of romantization of the whole process and many parts that just don't seem genuine. So overall I think you'll end up with a better sense of who he is and his story rather than exceedingly useful advice you can apply to yourself or that will change your perspective on things conserning songwriting.”

“There are plenty of how-to guides for learning piano or writing lyrics... this course is different and so much more valuable. Gary isn't just one of the world's best songwriters, he has decades of experience and has somehow managed to survive & thrive in a tough industry with his passion and love for music still intact. All through the course, his optimism is infectious, and respect for the craft inspiring. His genuine gratitude at being able to do what he loves also shines through, and I think that's another important lesson for anyone aspiring to a career in music.
