“I was a bit leery at first of getting this considering it's not only expensive, but has some less than stellar comments in some online discussions about cycling cameras. But there were an equal number of very good reviews from people who'd used them for years, and I don't always trust what people say online, so, after a nasty scrape with a taxi, I decided I was better off judging for myself.
So far, it's been excellent, and what really impresses me is the battery life. I took it out on a seven hour, 100km ride and by the time I got back, it had still only used up half its power. Which is ridiculous. Mind, I had the light off, and camera only, except for the first hour (I set off before dawn), because I thought the battery might run out, but I needn't have worried.
Plus, the light is as others have reported, really, really bright. Which is great. I do still have my old light, now on a handlebar mount rather than out front, stuck in a saddlebag in case I do need it. But I haven't needed it yet.
The footage looks a little washed out, but I did some online research and apparently this makes number plates and other details easier to see - and after all, it's a safety camera, not a GoPro.
I've already uploaded one video of dodgy driving to the Cycliq website, which got accepted, and also submitted it to the local police.
The thing I get from it most is peace of mind I can prove my side of the story if such a time becomes necessary. I already can't imagine going out cycling without it. It's heavier than you think it'll be, but that's a small sacrifice.”
“These cameras work well and the image stabilisation is very good, in 4K the picture quality makes the video clear. Biggest bugbear is that the picture is noisy in low light/night conditions under normal suburban street lighting, and the image quality is degraded as a result. All round, this is a very good product, not cheap but still well worth the price.”
“I upgraded to the Fly Sport and there are two benefits.
1. Slightly better resolution at 2K than the Fly 12CE
2. The camera is not "always on" to connect with the Cycliq app. Which on the Fly12CE, the battery can run down before a ride.
The smaller format and size is also a plus as is the rear display.”
