“This is our first chicken breed, so I may be biased in my review.. so I'll just try to be honest. We ordered 9 Easter Eggers and they all arrived super happy and healthy! We ordered females and only got 1 roo, so not bad! Our Easter Eggers are almost 2 years old now and are prevalent egg layers of LARGE to EXTRA LARGE bright blue and green eggs. One even lays a speckled egg which is really neat. These birds are smaller than some but not bantam sized... ours as adult weigh between 4-5 lbs. Their small size will save you on feed costs!
Colors: There is a large variety of color-- some dark brown, red, copper, light brown, white hens flecked with blacks and grays all with small pea combs. All have beards and muffs except for one odd hen. They seem to do great in the summer and winter.
Eggs: At their peak, with 8 hens, in the summer they lay up to 6 large-extra large blue/green eggs a day which is pretty decent. Huge orange yolks! Grade AA quality eggs! We do have one EE (the one without a muff/beard), that seems to go broody in the summer which is the most annoying thing because she stops laying and just sits in the nesting box. We broke her out of it and she went broody 2 more times this summer! Geez! They lay up to 6 eggs in the summer and tend to take a few months off in the winter. It's mid February right now and we're getting 0-3 eggs per day. They took off Nov through January.
Personality: They aren't cuddly like some people claim their chickens are, even though we held them lots growing up. Some of them tolerate being held more than others, and they're all a little look but no touch type personality (they'll shy away and not enjoy being pet or cuddled). They are inquisitive, talkative, active, kind and seem relatively intelligent. They aren't picky eaters and love crumbles, pellets, mealworms, sunflower seeds, scratch, apples, leafy greens, grapes, cucumbers, eggs... really anything healthy they love. Ours don't take to flying much, we have a 5' fence which they have never tried to fly over, nor do they roost in trees. Heck, they don't even use the nice perch in the run my hubby made for them, nor the fancy dustbox-- they'd rather just be digging in bedding or scratching around outside all day. Last spring we had an incident where all the hens ganged up on this special one (we say special because she seems a little slow and has difficulty pecking and picking up small objects, we think maybe she's borderline crossbeak or something special lol of course she's also the friendliest one). They plucked her head BALD and raw so I had to separate her during the day to let her heal. All her feathers have grown back now and I'm hoping they never do anything like that again! We have them in a coop sized for more hens than we got, as well as an appropriately sized run... we think maybe she was attacked because she's the lowest in the pecking order and the others sensed she was different.
Health: They seem like a healthy robust breed... only had a couple scares: a brief upper respiratory infection when they were pullets (~8 months old) which was treated with antibiotics (Tylan). Mild Acute roundworm last summer which was treated with Fenbendazole. One of the hens once had a swollen up eye but was better in a couple days without treatment, we think maybe she got a piece of dirt or straw in it. Never had any issues with bumblefoot since we keep them in a clean dry run and use pine shavings. Other than those few incidents, we haven't had any severe health issues with them.
Summary: We LOVE our beautiful Easter Eggers and know you will too! Chickens for life!”
“Our EE chickens aren't as friendly as our Dorkings, but they aren't a mean spirited bird. We only got 3 EE in our batch of chicks and each lays a dramatically different color! One Blue, one Green, one light tan/pinkish. Very happy!”
“My EE arrived as a dark grey chick so I was excited to watch her feather out. She turned into a beautiful golden girl with some blue lacing. She has a great muff and beard too! I ordered 7 chicks, all different breeds and she was the first to lay. I was debating over a olive egger or EE and ultimately decided to go for the EE for the surprise egg. Today she laid her first and it was a beautiful olive green. Of the 7 she is one of the top 3 friendliest.”
“I had a flock of beautiful Ameraucanas already and was looking for more. For some reason, I had a hard time getting purebreds at the time, so I thought I would give Easter Eggers a try.
As they grew, their colors became dazzling! There is one particular bird that my young son has bonded with, he named her Coco. Coco will follow him around like a puppy and loves being cuddled. I do not regret my choice of ordering Easter Eggers. They lay a plentiful amount of gorgeous of colored eggs and are smart, wiley little birds.”
“Received end of May, waited to review until they were laying. My girls arrived quickly, healthy and happy. All survived and are thriving 25 weeks. Of the 5, 2 are now laying light green and teal eggs (one has been laying for 4 weeks, the other laid for the first time today). Very sweet birds, one likes to hop on my shoulder when I enter their run. No fighting and the introduction to my other 2 adults went easier than I could have dreamed. My only complaint is the description states their eggs are extra large and they are closer to medium. Good thing I ordered so many! Will definitely always want a few in my flock.”
“I stared my flock with3 chickens from mypet chickens, they‚Äôre Easter egger and let me tell you it was the best decision ever. Today 3 days shy of my sassy girl turning 6 months she gave me her first pretty specked blue egg. It was so small and a light blue color but it‚Äôs beautiful. My other Easter egger has not laid a egg yet but I‚Äôm extremely happy! My sassy girl even seems a little friendlier now, they‚Äôre a little skiddish but funny and sweet none the less.”
“I ordered one Easter Egger from MPC in July, 2019 (along with some other different breeds). Out of all the chickens I ordered, the easter egger was the most friendly, loving, and docile chicken. Her name is Falcon, and she is the most beautiful beige with dark brown barring on her feathers. She looks a bit like a falcon, hence her name. She's still a pullet, so no eggs yet, but she so active and fun! She loves her swing-set, and she loves to demand piggy-back rides from her human. I know she would pick up horse-back riding in an instant, if she could get a horse! Best personality ever! Thank you MPC!”
“No eggs yet as they are only 12 weeks old but boy, are they beautiful birds! They love to follow me around for garden scraps. They are more timid than my super social Dorkings but we love our EE's and plan to get many more come spring. My pet chicken ships them very well, warm and secure. We are 10 for 10 still 12 weeks later on the chicks we bought and I am well pleased. They've been robust and healthy from day 1.”
