Baby Chicks: Austra White Female Reviews

4.9 Rating 64 Reviews
Our Naomi was one the most alert, feisty, intelligent and fearless as a chick and at almost 2 years old she is still the same. She didn't like to be held until after she started laying. She is just as vigilant over the flock 2nd in command in face and was an amazing mother to some chicks I let her hatch out (hatching eggs I bought for her) when she went broody. I recommend this breed, she lays as described nice large cream colored eggs, is a great forager, went broody only once and was an excellent mother. She's a joy and absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you so much for sharing Naomi’s story with us. It is always rewarding to hear how these birds grow into such strong personalities, and it sounds like she has truly become a standout member of your flock! The Austra White is stunning in the mixed flock and those eggs are certainly one of the largest in the basket; we are delighted that she is working so well for you. We truly appreciate the review and the recommendation and we are grateful you chose MPC to help with your flock journey.

Got five of these in our most recent group of chicks. They are growing faster than all the other breeds. Very friendly

They're only two weeks now and still little yellow peeps with black spots, and the family loves them. Full of energey but will snuggle in the hand and fall asleep.

I had ordered 3 of these chicks with 3 other breeds and these were very mean to the other chicks. In just a few days they had grown quite a bit compared to the others so in that aspect that is nice for other reasons and they apparently lay 300 eggs a year. But I will never purchase again if that's their temperament.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're sorry that your Austra Whites have been such a handful! Since they're still so young, they're likely trying to assert themselves at the top of the pecking order early. Hopefully, once everyone has settled into their place on the totem pole, things will calm down and their behavior will improve. If you're still seeing issues after a few weeks, please feel free to reach out—we’d be happy to help troubleshoot with you.

We got our Austra a few years ago and she is the sassiest, smartest, boss of all our flock. She has raised baby chicks all the way to healthy adulthood three summers in a row. She's really quite impressive.
