“I had ordered 3 of these chicks with 3 other breeds and these were very mean to the other chicks. In just a few days they had grown quite a bit compared to the others so in that aspect that is nice for other reasons and they apparently lay 300 eggs a year. But I will never purchase again if that's their temperament.”

Since they're still so young, they're likely trying to assert themselves at the top of the pecking order early. “All my May and June hens are laying now. The Austra Whites were the first by about 2 weeks, and one lays a double yolk nearly every day. If I never have another breed I won't mind. For this year I bought Austra Whites, Black Australorpes, Ancona, Mirabella, and Red Rhode Islands. I like them all.”
