Already at 3 weeks they are showing leg feathers and are pretty. Theses are my first BC M and I’m excited to get dark eggs in the Spring.

I wish it gave me an option to attach a picture. This was my FAVORITE chicken that I received out of 7 different breeds, mostly because it was the friendliest. She would jump on my shoulder every time I squat down and follow me around. She was mostly all black with very little copper color but only made it to about 10 weeks (it was sadly killed by a dog). I will be reordering another in the future!

We are so very sorry to hear about the loss of your poor baby! That is absolutely heartbreaking! The Black Copper Marans are so very wonderful and we hope that we will be able to help you in the future to add another one to your flock who will hopefully take her place upon your shoulder. Please let us know whenever you may have questions or need assistance, we are here to help!

What a great hen! We wanted a BCM for those beautiful chocolate eggs, but this is also a great all around breed for a backyard flock. Ours is very easy to handle and is usually right behind our two friendliest hens, an Orpington and a Sussex, to greet us at the gate. She doesn’t love being picked up but she’ll tolerate it. She’s much happier following us around instead. While I didn’t get a BCM for looks, that was only out of ignorance on my part. She is gorgeous! She has so much purple and green iridescence in her feathers, you can’t help but stop what you’re doing to watch her strut around the yard. She laid her first egg at 21 weeks old. They’re a beautiful dark brown, probably a 5 on the Marans scale (right in the middle of MPC’s reference image). And she lays a lot of them! She’s been laying for about 3 weeks and has maybe taken three days off. I was worried about having a larger, feather footed black chicken here in Arizona, but she’s been handling the brutal summer heat surprisingly well (a mister and fan helps a lot). Overall, this is definitely a breed I’ll always want to have in my flock.
