“I recommend this breed for anyone who already has chicken experience. We got 4 adorable babies. As of now, they are 5 weeks old and almost completely feathered. We received 2 blue splash and 2 blues. All 4 look different and beautiful in their own way. 2 arrived with pasty butt, but with a few washings 2-3 times a day for few days they both recovered. All 4 seem to have higher heat needs than average, definitely more than our golden comets did. They have just this week started to become more confident and less likely to freak out about things like someone getting up from a chair. So far they have no interest in seeing our two golden comet hens but love one of the cats so I hope they have more room to grow socially. They love to be held and walked around with but do not like getting picked up. They will not take the lead with interacting with people 9/10, which is very different from my golden comets. They are definitely docile, but so far they do not seem to be very social with anyone except themselves. That being said, they are very sweet and loving with each other and we have had no issues with bullying. They are willing to be cuddled with and love it but will not seek it out. They need a lot of gentle support and a bit more attention to keeping them healthy so I absolutely recommend for someone with some experience.”
“Our blue/black orpington started laying at 20 weeks. She's a little skittish compared to the other girls, and she's at the bottom of the pecking order, but she's a sweetheart and very docile. She's a full-sized chicken with black head and neck and a blue body. She's laying the most perfect pinkish eggs. Lovely girl.”
“My 2 girls are exactly as pictured with darker almost black neck and face on one and the other black neck and face .. blue feathering is gorgeous with the black necks/head. Very healthy girls and one started laying already! My favorite are there dark eyes! Beautiful! Very calm hens and very obedient! Can‚Äôt wait for them to go Broody! The Salmon Faverolles and the Barrock roosters have mated with her and can‚Äôt wait to see the mix!”
“This is one of our nicest chickens. She ended up being a splash and gets prettier every day. She is shy but loves to be pet. Super laidback and avoids all the other ladies' drama. Would get a whole flock of these, just the sweetest.”
“She has a lovely ombre pattern to her feathers: Her head is nearly black, and the color gradually fades to a light charcoal grey at the tail. She's easygoing and has beautiful dark eyes. So happy I chose this breed!”
“I‚Äôm actually surprised this orp has such beaming reviews. Mine came black and has a pretty green sheen but I was hoping for splash or blue. She lays a brown egg every day that has a pinkish tint which is pretty. Personality wise she‚Äôs just there. She not flighty but she also doesn‚Äôt care to be cuddly. She‚Äôs also my grossest hen, poops in the netting box and always seems to be a mess. I think she might be one of the lesser intelligent hens. Overall she‚Äôs just meh. I wish I had gotten a different breed.”
“This girl is a well built bird. She stands taller than the other 6 pullets we received the same day. She‚Äôs a beautiful bluish/gray. I just so excited about how well all of the birds have done in the past twelve weeks. All 7 birds are hardy and doing quite well in our backyard coop. If you are looking for a solid hen, I would suggest this breed of Orpington. I will be ordering more of these in the future.”
