Baby Chicks: Blue/Black/Splash Orpington Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 46 Reviews
Got two of these chicks back in April one ended up blue the other one splashed. Both are very friendly and getting big and very beautiful. They are just starting to lay reliably but we have 9 young hens this years so they are hard to track whose laying what. This is my third bunch of Orpington also have Buffs and Lavenders. They never disappoint. All very tame and sweet my kids love them. Very happy with our choice.

Best girl in my flock, very good egg layer. Very hardy girl, first year she took a direct hit from a hawk with some TLC she’s back laying.

I Adore All Orpingtons! They arrived yesterday all healthy and no pasty bums! Lol I ordered 10 chicks mostly Orpingtons! I haven’t figured out yet them all but I can tell you they are all inquisitive and friendly! There was 1 particularly that comes dashing out soon as she hears me coming! It’s just to cute! Then everyone follows suit! She may be the Alfa I’m not sure yet! Lol I’m gonna take photos of each one separately while they have a leg ban and name it so hopefully as they grow I’ll know who they all are! I’m so thrilled with this bunch!!! This is my second time purchasing from MPC and I couldn’t see myself purchasing from anywhere else!!!! Thank you MPC!!!

Purchased June 2019 - as of today(Dec. 12) they are just coming into their beauty - very large chickens - fluffy bottoms - elegant - docile - lovely to look at - I love the dark heads and necks and the lighter bodies - two of mine are like the picture and the other is a light grey with darker grey head and neck - they are amicable to being held in the coop when they are on the perch (it is important to me that birds are not flighty and can easily be held occasionally - I am so happy with them!

I am happy and shocked to share that my spring 2019 Blue Orpington is already laying eggs! She started 3 days ago at only 19 1/2 weeks old! She's been laying her little brown egg every day since she started. I was surprised she was my first spring hen to start laying, because I heard that Orpingtons usually start laying a little later than most breeds. I guess she had to be first! She is the biggest hen I have, but also the sweetest one. My little 18 month old silkies boss her around. I don't know if she has realized she is a giant compared to them, but one of my silkies did raise her, so she might always think of them as the alphas in the flock.

I read online prior to ordering blue Orpingtons that they tend to be little divas in the sense that they are ( when compared to the other varieties of Orpington ) talkative, skittish, and more bossy . I disregarded this as I have also heard that color does not play a role in the personality of the overall breed… I must say that for what it is worth and I know that there will be people reading these reviews while doing research and I can wholeheartedly confirm that my blue is louder, More skittish, and more bossy than my jubilee Orpington. I may have a fluke on my hands or what I read online may have some truth to it, either way, I wanted to share my experience for those who may be wondering. She’s a beautiful blue color but definitely more of a handful! In doing my research I never heard jubilees or lavender is described as anything but perfect in the personality department and while I do not have a lavender my Jubilee is pretty darn close to perfect.

I ordered these guys when My Pet Chicken first started offering them, and they were gorgeous. They have also been very healthy and hearty. I ordered one in 2012, and when I returned to university the next year, I took her with me. She made the two hour drive and acclimated well, and we've been here ever since. She died a few days ago (April 2019), and though she stopped laying daily long ago, even up until she died, I was getting a couple of eggs a week out of her (I have two of her eggs in an incubator now-fingers crossed they hatch!). She (and all the blue/black/splash Orpingtons I have ordered) was a very sweet, laid back, gorgeous ball of floof. She had beautiful blue color saturation, a nice, tight comb, and the best gentle disposition ever. I have ordered more for this year, and they will be shipped this week. Wonderful birds.
