“I was pretty excited to see MPC subbed a Buff Oprington for me, when one of the original chicks I ordered wasn't available. She seems a bit more timid than my other chicks and spent quite a bit of her first week under the warming plate, but I think is coming around. She is a sweet buttery yellow color.”

“Extremely noisy chicken. Makes all kinds of weird sounds from sounding like a rooster to sounding like a dog squeaky toy. She never shuts up. Nothing like my other sweet girls. Doesn't let me pet her or pick her up like my others. I do not want roosters because of the noise and she is even worse than a rooster. The noise starts as soon as the sun comes up, before I even open the coop door I can hear her. I do not like her at all. I hope I can give her to someone soon.”
We apologize for the experience you have had with one particular noisy chicken. Buff Orpingtons are typically gentle, quiet, and sweet birds. However, this is a reminder that despite characteristics that can be "typical" for a certain breed, it does not mean all will share those traits.
“Of all my chickens, the buff Orpington is my favorite. She is so tame the small children can sit in the grass and she comes and allows them to hug and pet her, and she follows me around like a puppy. At one year old she is laying 5-6 large eggs a week. Great family pet!”
