Baby Chicks: Golden Buff (Red Star) Female Reviews

4.9 Rating 89 Reviews
Excellent ladies. All healthy and arrived the day after shipping. They are very social and already are very in tune with the people in the house. They're like feathered dogs, even with my kids! I definitely recommend this breed and my pet chicken in general. Very happy with them!

Chics are one week old and are doing very well. They are eating, drinking and beginning to grow their wing feathers.

I received 5 Red star and 3 Easter egger chicks at the end of February. All arrived healthy, hungry and thirsty. All of them have grown quickly with the Easter eggers being considerably larger and stockier than the Red stars. The Red stars are way more friendly though, very curious and brave while the Easter eggers are quite timid. A couple of the Red stars began laying last week (mid June). The eggs are quite small compared with their older flock-mates which are 3 three year old Barred Rocks, but I figure they will get larger as the chicks age (?). It was a chore introducing 8 young hens to the established Barred rock flock. The Rocks are quite mean to all the young hens, but things have settled down over time and they seem to get along pretty well now, just the occasional fight at roosting time, but no serious damage. My flock free-ranges and the young chicks tend to stay together as a group separate from the Rocks outside the coop and run. Red Stars are very entertaining, friendly hens.

Thank you Bill for taking the time to send in a review on your Golden Buffs/Red Stars! Your Golden Buffs/Red Stars will be egg-laying machines that continue to lay well in the heat and cold, when many others slow down. Golden Buffs mature at around 20 weeks, and the average hen weighs about 4 lbs.

I purchased 2 of the Golden Buffs. They are beautiful, healthy, and friendly. The two of them are already bffs, it appears. And they both have already started dust bathing. Talk about cute! Only a week old and already figured it out.

Sweet Gigi is not the most dominant of the 8, from the looks of it, and she loves her naps! (Obviously resting for when she's the workhorse... er workchicken.... of egg productivity) She is curious and I love her ginger big girl feathers coming in. She was very shy in the beginning but is coming around and she runs to me when I come say hello.
