These are egg laying machines. This group is very uniform in size and color. Can’t wait till they start laying.

She's growing fast and keeps me entertained with her antics. Has been the first of the batch to start trying out her new wings.

I don’t know how I ended up with a rooster. This is a sex linked bird and looking at photos of other peoples’ chicks, mine was clearly a boy from day one. Out of my 5 hens ordered from MPC, 2 are so far roosters (that I know of), hoping all 3 others end up being hens. Sad. Hard to rehome a rooster and now I have to rehome 2 at least. I recently ordered 3 newer chicks as well and I have become good at sexing and I believe one to be a rooster as well. Does this happen to everyone or am I just getting some bad luck??

Thank you for reviewing our Golden Buff chicks. As you have noted, Golden Buffs are a sex-linked breed, meaning males and females hatch with different down colors, making sexing much more accurate than with standard breeds. While this process greatly minimizes the chance of error, no method is entirely infallible. In rare instances, natural variation or a visual anomaly can lead to a chick being misidentified at hatch, despite our best efforts. While these situations are uncommon, they are possible, and we always stand behind our guarantee when they do happen. It's still too early to know for sure on your second batch of chicks if there is a rooster, and we certainly hope there hasn't been! Please reach out to us if you still have concerns about this chick as it matures.

From the moment she came out of the shipping box, was the most curious and intelligent of the bunch. Friendly, liked being handled but not in a needy way. Highly food-motivated. Laid a nice brown egg regularly. The only thing that seemed to be inaccurate in the description is the "heat hardy". This girl was a mess in the heat! Overall, fantastic bird.

I have two, and they're even sweeter than the two I had in the past. They come running when they see me and want to be picked up and petted. Not only is this bird all sweet personality, but they are laying machines. They lay L-XL eggs every day, and even though they aren't among our larger chickens, their eggs are significantly bigger. If I could have only one breed of chicken, it would be this one. The only con is that it felt like the first two I had died pretty early on (2.5-3 years), and it felt like they laid themselves to death. I realize this is probably ideal, but they were such sweet hens that I hated to lose them.

She is a friendly bird and very inquisitive. Follows us around and "talks" to us. Lays a pretty brown egg every single day. A little bossy with the other hens but very friendly with people.

Your Golden Buff sounds like she is a "people person" and may be positioning for the "queen" spot in the pecking order with her flock mates! This breed is known to lay eggs year round so while your other breeds may not be laying due to the shorter days during the winter months, she will still provide those beautiful eggs to her flock of "people". Please let us know if you have any questions as we are always happy to help!
