No-Crow Rooster Collar Reviews

2.8 Rating 81 Reviews
I loved the No-Crow Collar. It worked well on our two and a half year old Black Cochin rooster for quite sometime. We followed the instructions and everything seemed right. I even wrote a review on the collar praising its effectiveness. However, we gave our flock some apples to eat and went out for awhile and he must have gotten a piece stuck in his throat. We got back home and he was struggling to breathe and later that day died. We loved him and his death was quite a blow to us. Roosters are supposed to crow, it's just what they do. Trying to stop the crowing was a mistake on our part and I'm very sorry I did that. What could we have done differently? I don't know, because nobody can watch them 24 hours a day. I would suggest not giving them anything but their crumbles and scratch, but I will never again try to suppress a roosters crowing. So, I guess that means I will never be able to have a rooster again. The chicken yard is not the same and I now refer to the hens as widows. It's all so sad, but if his crow had been heard, I could not have kept him anyway.

I am so sad! We bought this collar in hopes of keeping our sweet silkie and it does not work. I have advertised him free to good home to no avail. Our only option is to turn him out to the elements and wild animals, or kill him which we can't bring ourselves to do. We live in the country but still have neighbors close enough to be irritated. Wish this would've helped our sweet rooster.

Works real good.I would say it cuts the volume of the crow in half. I'm definitely glad I bought one.Cut the noise down enough so I could keep my rooster.

We ordered the No Crow collar for our pullet-that-turned-out-to-be-a-cockerel. Roosters are not prohibited where we live, but we do have neighbors, and he was getting LOUD. It did take time to get the fit right, and we almost gave up, but I am SO glad we didn't. Once we got the collar properly fitted (JUST tight enough and in the right spot on his neck), his crow was drastically reduced in volume, to the point where neighbors started asking us if we'd gotten rid of him. He was still able to make all of his rooster sounds, eat normally, and mate with his hens. After the first few days, he didn't seem bothered by it, other than occasionally picking at the yellow "No Crow" tag. We just ordered our 2nd collar since after 6 months of picking at the tag, he had slightly torn the mesh on the first one. (I would recommend removing the tag before putting it on, since that was something he could easily grab and pick at.) But another $23 is well worth keeping my beloved rooster AND having happy neighbors.

My rooster just died and we had a necropsy done and he aspirated and had food and foam in his trachea. The doctor that did the necropsy said his comb was swollen I'm unclear of what that means. This was our first experience with 3 chickens and a rooster. We did not know it was a rooster and live where they are illegal. The collar did seem to work well for over a month and he seemed healthy and we were also happy to keep him. We adjusted his collar because he started crowing loud on a Saturday and we found him dead on a Tuesday. He was checked on Tuesday morning and I found him dead at noon on his side. I thought I followed the instructions carefully and watched him after being adjusted and he seemed to breathe fine and could open his mouth like the instructions said. He was 5 months old. He was our pet and we never wanted to hurt him or get rid of him. His crow sounded like the examples you hear online so we thought everything was well. He did have feathers missing, broken off under the collar. I don't want to say anything negative about the company I just want to tell my story and hope it helps someone else from killing the chicken with the collar. I feel horrible about this and wish I had better instruction or knew more things to watch out for. I am not blaming anyone either. I do feel as though if the collar was loosened any further he would crow to loud. I don't think I could ever try this again or recommend it. RIP Rooster

So I live around a bunch of houses and where I live there is no crowing aloud, so I decided to get a no crow collar for my blue Easter egger rooster. I had some troubles at first because I lost the instructions so I emailed mypetchicken.com, got the instructions, used them and now the collar works wonderfully! Hope this helped!
