We usually recommend applying 100ml of protectME per m2 of fabric for most fabrics. Please note that some fabrics will require a second coat — usually thicker/more absorbent fabrics or loose weave fabrics.
Based on this ratio, our 750ml bottle will cover about 7.5m2 of fabric and our 5 litre container will cover 50m2 of fabric.
For a standard 3 seater couch, we normally recommend a 2L for one application so in your case, I'm guessing that not enough product was applied especially if the fabric was very absorbent for a 5 seater couch.
protectME is primarily intended to repel liquid stains. It will certainly help cleaning oily stains (chocolate, tomato sauce, sunscreen etc) and dirt marks but we can’t guarantee that there will be no marks left. This is especially true when force is applied onto the fabric, i.e. fingers smudging chocolate. You are able to steam clean the fabric after protectME has been applied with the coating able to withstand temperatures up to 250 degrees celsius and you can spot treat any marks with any standard spot cleaner.
