How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? With Ihumatao happening in NZ at the time, and the TUIA 250 roadshow coming to our town it meant lots of discussion. Students felt free to discuss multiple points of views and justify their views. Randomly giving each student a person card from the resour
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I was once a high school social studies teacher and really enjoyed the chance to teach many perspectives. With students of many nationalities in my class it was a great opportunity to look at different points of views. I made sure we covered all points of
First time School kit user. Excellent vibrant hands on resources to use with my year 7/8 class. Loved the person cards, loved the map of Whitianga area, was a very current unit. Many students had new no knowledge of this time in NZ's past and said they'd learnt a lot. Students went on to create exhibits and models of waka, ships and to do research on The Endeavour, Cook and Banks, Tupaia etc.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Using the character cards: we gave out cards to pairs of students - 1 from the Endeavour and 1 from the tangatawhenua. Students had to write as much as they could from the information on the cards, then create a venn diagram about what was similar of diff
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? To be honest it opened our eyes. There are 4 international teachers in our team of 6 and this was a good way to introduce them to one aspect of NZ History. There were many discussions and the NZ teachers also talked about how much new knowledge they had l
This School Kit was used as part of our Tuia 250 Inquiry during Weeks 7 - 9 in Term 3, however we felt like we were unable to do this kit justice as our timeframe was so short... alongside everything else that was going on at school at the time, including a Talent Show in Week 10. All that aside, our team used the kit as a resource to inquire into what happened in New Zealand 250 years ago. The students were excited by the resources and were able to relate to the character cards. We role played the shooting of cannonball - It gave a real life opportunity to discover how perspectives are so varied and how the story can be so different about the one event. It was a great resource that was not done as much justice as I would have liked. A resource I would use again next year with a group of students.

Another fantastic, thought provoking kit! It was so good to have a range of stories and perspectives to share and the tamariki responded to it all so well. It made teaching and sharing some of NZ history so much easier. We had some great discussions and the maps and visuals made things so much clearer. I will definitely be using this kit again in the future!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It made me realise how much I need to emphasise that a lot of what I teach is from my own research so I must be careful to always learn as much as possible from multiple sources in order to give a balanced and fair view of what happened.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I am passionate about teaching New Zealand history which I do by teaching 'Today in History' most days in my class. I ordered the kit to add to the excitement in our class about learning NZ stories.
Apologies for late review. This kit was wonderful to explore the different points of view of people related to the early colonisation of Aotearoa New Zealand. My Year 3/4 class loved playing with the artefacts and it started some great discussions on the role of museums and what they share. Despite my class being on the young side for the kit, we had some great conversations about early New Zealand history, and how there are multiple perspectives. I teach a lot of New Zealand history in my class regularly, so it was good to go over the fact that what I am teaching is just one person's telling of a story, and there could be other stories that aren't exactly the same.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I think it puts things into perspective for me as an educator - to always teach the different perspectives in historical events.
Variety of relevant resources here! Loved the way it was separated so students could be grouped &; focus on one aspect at a time.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? WOW! We had so many discussions around this idea. It took them a while to understand that all people see the same idea from a variety of perspectives but once wee got into it, the ideas were deep and interesting. We did lots of role play delving into the
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? THE kit enabled me to embrace the teaching of NZ history and the rich stories that we have to share as it showed the students the stories rather that told them.
This was a fabulous opportunity to delve into NZ history - thank you to school kit. The resources provided an interesting avenue to explore the arrival of Cook to NZ and provided interest for the students - particularly the orange marmalade. Seeing the same event from a variety of perspectives was a valuable learning tool and was easily integrated into classroom and school life.
