Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them A huge number of my students have had no idea of what baby animals are named. We have had lots of discussions and opportunities to practise with the help of the kit. I've also been able to introduce the Te reo names as well. It's become second nature for the children to say 'kuri' for dog, 'poaka' for pig, and 'hei hei' for chickens.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? I would have to say the bricks themselves made the biggest impact, and the discourse that evolved around their use. The opportunities to introduce new terminology in context has been powerful. My cohort of learners at present are extremely young. A lot have not attend preschool. A large majority of them have undeveloped fine motor skills, so the bricks themselves have also been useful to help address this.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? My student have a deeper understanding on who works on a farm and their varying roles.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? The context of farming linked beautiful into our Spring Inquiry and our Growing Plants Unit. It opened up a lot of broader discourse between students and teacher, and students and student. We got to discuss things like the pasteurisation process, and how milk gets from the farm to the supermarket. (A conversation that may not have occurred, had it not been for the kit.) As stated above it's been fabulous for my Esol learners, they have been learning and practicing new vocabulary with their peers..

“I finally got around to using the Brick Farm in Term 4 and managed to incorporate it with both our Spring Inquiry and our Growing Plants Unit. I run a transitional New Entrant class so it's a very fluid environment. At the moment I have a high proportion of ESOL students and the bricks have been useful to help support these learners to learn new vocabulary. We have spent a lot of time exploring the different roles of those on the farm. A core number of my boys have spent time remodifying the vehicles, so they can transport more produce about the farm. Great resource thanks”

“I have found that this was a bit tricky for the age of the children that I had. It required a lot of one-on-one attention. Once it was set up you could see the children interact with the different animals, characters and settings.”

I can remember all the maori words for the fruits and vegetables" " I liked it when we talked with our friends when we played with the bricks. I found out how all the foods get to our supermarket"

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? the actual bricks. They used them in different ways, the actual set up was an awesome challenge. In groups they worked on builds following instructions and problem solving challenges they had. The physical manipulation of bricks really engaged them.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? They have become part of our building/engineering station and are used weekly. We also go back to them regularly to review te reo learnt.

“We used our bricks in various ways but the children really enjoyed creating a mara kai and using te reo sentences and phrases to talk about their creations. Naming vegetables, farm machinery. We also transferred this learning to our own mara kai we have established on our school grounds.”
