Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Student A loves lego and has a strength in creativity. He was really excited when he found out they had the opportunity to build we had little packets of bricks from another teacher. He would always ask if he can open more which I allowed when it was the right time. Student B struggled with building a truck but he was able to ask other classmates which gave others a chance to use their skills to help. Which benefitted other students too

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The Bricks were the most impactful in terms of making the bigger kits. They had to learn to do it as a group and help each other.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? For my future learners they would be able to create with the bricks too.

We found out about in the journal (school journal) and the reader ay Mrs McKenzie? I didn't know that before! **Isabella** My favourite bit is the map cos we can make all the things and then I give Zac some directions and he likes that. It's like learning!

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The children really enjoyed the base - we used this for maths - directional language. They loved the vehicles and they were super engaged in using them - lots of oral language when playing with them as well as social interaction and negotiation/turn taking required!

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The enjoyment of playing with peers, learning more about where our food comes from and the love of builing.

We found a book 'where does milk come from' from the library and used this and some youtube videos to explore the idea of milk and farming. The children were able to retell this in their own words. Lots of oral language used when playing alsol

“My children (Year 2) absolutely loved this kit. They were very engaged with the concept and because it was building on knowledge they already had, it was a very rich topic for literacy and led to further scientific inquiry (around milk, vegetables etc). The children continue to use the set for play related purposes every day and get very grumpy if anything gets accidentally broken or misplaced. I have a child in my class with autism and he is particularly passionate about setting it up and using it which has been awesome as we hadn't found anything until this that really sparked his interest.”

"I really liked creating stories on the farm and I can't wait to show my mum and dad my stop motion video!"

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? All components were impactful. Every child in my class was able to experience success with this kit because the components were easy to follow, were easily adaptable and came with a variety of challenges able to be changed easily for the learners needs.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? My learners were completely inspired by this kit. They are all confident in creating their own stories and filming them and all were able to achieve this task no matter what their reading or writing level is. During break times my students were found sneaking into class to work on their projects/storyboards because they couldn't get enough!!

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? My learners watched videos and we read books where we learnt topic vocabulary such as compost, weeds, mulch as well as the supplied English/Te Reo Māori vocab words which came in really handy for when children were writing their stories and translating their sentences into Te Reo. This mahi also highlighted that many of my students didn't understand how farms work and what farmers do/supply them with, so we explored things like where milk comes from, how butter is made etc which not only developed their oral language and vocabulary but also their understanding of how the world works.

“The Countdown Brick Farm was a HUGE success in akomanga wha (room 4). My students loved setting up the farm and completing challenges which were differentiated for their learning needs but also supported by their peers to achieve more than they would by themselves. The unique aspect of this kit is that while I initially set up the task, they had complete control and student agency/inquiry into this field of learning and I found that for the most part, I was hands-off and they only approached me when they had a question that their peers couldn't solve. Their brick farms naturally expanded into storytelling, where they created storyboards and dialogue (in English and te reo maaori) and some incorporated sound effects which led into stop motion videos where another student became an expert and lead groups in lessons of how to create stop motion videos.”

" I researched about how bread is made and sent to the supermarket, I was amazed by all the things that went into bread."

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The lego farm definitely- still played with every day.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? A stronger understanding about how food is made and the role that farms, manufacturers, distributors and retailers work in a process to bring a great variety of food to us.

“My class loved the Bricks Farm Kit. We worked through the resource and had a lot of learning about farming. Kids researched some of the different types of farming in NZ and learned a lot about the process of running a farm- who works there, what is farmed, what is needed to run the farm (sometimes regional factors- eg climate, soil), who works there and what do they do, where do the outputs from the farm go to market, what products contain the output, and how they are sold. So much learning for city kids. Bricks Farm is still a favourite play activity at choosing time or wet days.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Things that the students hadn't seen in their family collections of countdown bricks. All the opportunities for discussion about NZ farming and where our food comes from

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Many countdown fans who know and trust the brand and the products in the kit. KNowledge of where food comes from and how it gets from farm to their table
