How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? My students have learnt alot about farming as I was a farmer for many years so they could relate the kit to stories I have shared with them and books we have read about farming.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Storywriting - some of the children were able to connect to the farms that they knew and were able to write stories about it. Other children were able to create adventures on a farm.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The Lego bricks - make learning hands on for kinetic learners. The little cardboard cards with the items on them made learning like a game.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? They learnt, they built and they still use it everyday (if they can) and I can hear them reffering back to the conversations we had while learning! When we went on a trip we went past farms and they were all talking about what they could see and they remember a lot from the bricks set, made the “toys” seem very real for them. They were so excited.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The wide variety of different mini items the students were able to build and instruction manuals.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The sorting activity as it gave students a chance to practice using 'because' in a sentence to extend their language.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? We continue to use the pieces and game, although some new ways of using these have also ocurred and of course the bricks are used daily for construction activities all of which continue to enhance our students oracy.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Farming was something that was new to a lot of the children we specifically chose to use this kit with. It extended their vocabulary while also giving them some knowledge to bring to the table as they knew names of some fruit and vegetables for example.

“We loved our Bricks Kit and used it as part of our Lego Club to develop Oracy skills in our students with additional needs. Everyone loves a bit of Lego brick building and this drew all the students together. They played the games and then became 'experts' to teach the other children in the team, giving them opportunities to be leaders and to practice their oral language skills in something they knew and enjoyed. The games further developed their skills in a different area while retaining the knowledge they already had from other brick activities. This also supported turn taking, waiting and supporting each other to know what to do.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The dice game was great - lots of great discussions and creativity to create something fit for purpose
