What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Students are feeling valued - one student even started wearing her hijab (which she hadn't previously worn at school due to being embarrassed - I did not this and it was great to see her confidence grow and everyone accept her).
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The classroom became more inclusive on a deeper level rather than just at a surface level.
This kit made children stop and think about similarities and differences and that either are ok. They liked working through the kit

So good and timely for this unit. We absolutely loved having hard discussions and the kids were able to really understand the different forms racism can take. The positive compliments that came with this helped students really appreciate what others brought to the team as well as themselves. A

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The SMART goal section fit well with our classroom goal setting and helped to develop further understanding of setting goals. Action cards helped us to be accountable to what we say and be mindful about it.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It has started discussions that would not normally have occurred. Students were able to see how they were being unkind without knowing they were much more aware of their words and how they spoke specifically about stereotypes.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It allowed for conversations to escalate to a space of actual change. Due to their new consciousness, the class environment was a lot nicer. Students were able to self correct and give each other feedback.
The teacher resource was great for allowing teachers to think carefully about what they say and do and whether they have an unconscious bias. I emailed all teachers to use this journal at work through it at their own pace. We had so many great discussions around it.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Deep discussions and new realisations of how stereotypes easily sneak into our thinking.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Definitely raised awareness and kids now feel they can speak up about stereotypes from a place of better knowledge.
Used it with my Year Six group this year, Activities evoked deep discussion about stereotypes. WIll reuse the resource for the start of 2020 for my new 5/6 cohort as they won't have seen it. Probably one of your best yet!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? After discussing what it felt like to be a minority, students treated each other with more respect and understanding.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Understanding more about each others cultures was great for everyone and the students whose cultural background was less common really enjoyed sharing and teaching the class.
Our school and class are very diverse so stereotypes were not really recognised but it was great to see children asking about other children’s cultures inna positive and curious manner and we all learned a lot about each other. Some children had experienced racism and some had not, our main takeaway was that it is normal for everyone to be different and to stick up for others. I hope they will remember what they learned when they go off to other schools where things may be different.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We didn't do it formally but the students are making a real effort to pronounce words correctly, accept everyone's differences and include Te Reo Maori in our everyday classroom.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students are more connected, can appreciate each others' differences and the overall class culture is a lot more positive.
This was such a beautiful kit. My students were all really engaged and absolutely loved it. We aren't a very diverse group but it was great to have conversations about how we are all different in so many different ways and how that doesn't matter. We looked at each other's strengths and I truly believe that it made deeper connections between each of the kids. This is a kit I would like to use over and over, every year, especially towards the start to build a strong connection between the kids. I really enjoyed the teachers book - I'll admit that I am still working through it, bit by bit, but I love how it keeps me thinking.
