What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We did not create a formal action plan at this time, more a set of goals that we as a class want to follow. Now that we have the resource, we will definitely use it again in the future.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? This kit has reminded our students of the need to show respect towards people of all cultures. We have discussed celebrating cultural differences. We are lucky to have a wealth of knowledge on so many cultures and backgrounds in our classroom. It has been
Our students found this kit really beneficial. Our school has a large number of children who's families have come to NZ from other countries. With this, comes a responsibility to acknowledge and respect the cultures and backgrounds that are integral to the lives of those students. The kit has allowed us to have some powerful conversations around racism and how it can harm the lives of those around us.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Action plan is yet to be completed.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? More conscious of other cultures and races.
We loved Pictionary stereotypes, family circles and compliments. The other activities were a bit confusing to link up and Year 4’s didn’t quite get the racism and white privelege concepts.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? After discussing what it felt like to be a minority, students treated each other with more respect and understanding.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Understanding more about each others cultures was great for everyone and the students whose cultural background was less common really enjoyed sharing and teaching the class.
Our school and class are very diverse so stereotypes were not really recognised but it was great to see children asking about other children’s cultures inna positive and curious manner and we all learned a lot about each other. Some children had experienced racism and some had not, our main takeaway was that it is normal for everyone to be different and to stick up for others. I hope they will remember what they learned when they go off to other schools where things may be different.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We have been more mindful of making judgements about jobs and careers. We practiced saying names of people correctly. We will continue to use some of the ideas from the action plan as we found it was best to just do one or two at a time to consolidate
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We already try to have an inclusive environment, but this kit helped to tighten up what is acceptable in our class. It helped us to feel empowered to stand up and say ";Hey, my name is..";, to say "; that isn't how we talk about people, we are kind ";
Thanks for this kit. It is one that makes people feel a little uncomfortable and is challenging but that is a great thing. Anything that challenges us helps us to grow as a person and I see that happening in our class environment. This was a fantastic kit.

After looking through the kit I chose not to use it with my class as it just didn't 'sit right' with me. I did not like the idea of 'Stereotype Pictionary' as thought it would reinforce some stereotypical ideas rather than break them down - while I agree need to address stereotypes, I didn't think this was the best way to do so. My class are also somewhat immature and like doing things for the 'sensationalism' of it... and though the game would only add fuel to the fire! I also did not like the idea of labelling pupils as 'white privilege' as this is not breaking down racist or stereotypical ideas. I appreciate that the kits cost a lot of money to produce, and they are usually a great resource but this one was not for my class and I. I know the meaning was in the right place but didn't agree with the execution. Thanks

This piece of mahi worked great for our akomanga as we have so many different cultures, with a wide range of diversity. The children could relate to this pice of mahi on a personal level and understand much of the resources that we used. Thank you.

I didn’t really enjoy this kit at all. I did not have enough cultures in my room to get the benefit of this kit.

Wow, we unpacked some terms that are coming up in our Not Part of My World. Such depth and thought went into this very noisy session
