What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Children have worked on, discussed and shared their goals. Some of the seniors are keen to make changes in a whole school setting next year. We did some inquiry into different cultures within our community and how we could invite people in to teach us abo
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students became curious to know more about different cultures and realised that other cultures - with all their visible differences are actually very much like them.
During our time with the Not Part of My world kit, my Year 6-8 class were really engaged and curious throughout. Being a part of a school that is not obviously diverse in culture, race, or religion the children were quite surprised and very much oblivious of the racism that happens in our city and all around the world. We had many great discussions on similarities and differences of people who are closest to us using the targets, students found stereotype pictionary a lot of fun, realising how we categorise people based on physical features without even thinking about it.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Developing of thinking about different perspectives, and opened up personal stories where children could connect to each other and develop understanding. Great to help embed our school values and expectations.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Children tend to ask questions more than make judgements or generalisations. There is a genuine interest about others rather than falling into stereo types and or generalisations.
This kit was great to unpack and use to help children understand the cultural diversity there is within the classroom and that sometimes we need to 'dig deeper' when looking at people from different perspectives and to celebrate our differences rather than use them as something to divide.

This was a great kit, bringing the students together and giving them some perspective that they may not have/have the experience that shifts their perspective. It opened up the floor for some in-depth and open-minded discussion while helping to process the Christchurch attacks. Allowed us to explore similarities and differences.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We chose a couple of actions to focus on. Pronouncing people's names correctly was one of them. Anytime we come across a name we don't know how to say, we check and practice.
My Year 5/6 class really enjoyed this kit. It prompted rich conversations and left students with lots of thoughts. The students opened up about their own experiences which made the kit feel very real.
