What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Initially, my students started off with a few giggles and the occasional awkward silence. However, as we progressed through the action cards the topic developed into something that is real for my students. This resulted in some awesome conversations aroun
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? My students are more empathetic towards each other. It's awesome to see this support carry itself out to the playground and outside of school too.
This kit is awesome! It was fantastic to have the opportunity to work through the discomfort of racism alongside my students and come out the other end with a deeper understanding of racism and the things associated with it.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I did not do the action plan formally this year but may look at it again for next year.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It has made me more conscious of my own biases. Students want to discuss racism more and I may end up writing a unit based around racism for Level 1 SOST next year.
Kia ora School Kit, Thank you for producing a thought provoking and user friendly school kit. The horrific events of Christchurch was a wake-up call to all of us to actively examine our own thinking and actions towards racism in Aotearoa. I particularly liked the teacher reflection journal and the challenging questions it posed to us. I really started thinking about how important it was to celebrate Kiwi values that unit us. Please see the photo displaying students reflecting on what values NZ standards for. We also invited Golriz (Green MP) to come in and talk about her experiences of Islamphobia and racism, inviting Rosmini College students to come and join us (see photos). Doing the journal also got me thinking more about the ";mixedness"; of our students. We shouldn't pigeonhole students in our multicultural society. We all hold a unique mix of different roles and identities and this lead me to do the paper people activity. See photos. Best wishes, Shona- Westlake Girls High School (Auckland)

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It has impacted on my class and students immensely. As mentioned in other comment above. Standing proud in their own culture and identity. Empowering them to reject defecit kōrero. No to Racism!

My class were fully engaged and found it very thought provoking. We particularly found the pictionary stereotyping cards challenged what we know about the world we live. My class still ask if they can play this. we have carried the theme of kindness over to this term

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We have been working on Growth Mindset a lot and how we are all individuals and unique. We have been working on friendship skill a lot. We are learning to stop, think, tell, problem solve and have restorative conversations.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Growth mindset, respect and friendship are part of our everyday classroom teaching and climate.
We made a good start to this kit - We followed the teaching plan attached with the kit, so we did the all of the activities and discussions at the beginning and we got through playing the charades games (we did this as a whole class - this was lots of fun). We put the tear off posters on our window for the whole school to use , but after that it got a bit hard for our students. So we did not complete all of the kit. I recommend this kit for Year 5 and up.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students are each trying to achieve their SMART goals in small groups. For example one group is teaching us several different languages over the last 5 weeks of term. The first language we learnt this week was Korean.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I think the attitudes improved from the students about complimenting each other and learning more about each others culture. They were also able to reflect in a writing piece about the impact the kit had on their learning.
Our Year 7/8 class were really engaged and excited throughout the whole of this kit. We had many great discussions on similarities and differences of people who are closest to us (targets), pictionary (where because our class is already so diverse the students didn't refer to the stereotypes), how to give true compliments, write SMART goals and more.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? This kit provided the scaffolding to have more open ,reflective discussions. These discussions have continued into Term 4 and even the quietest of children have wanted to add their thoughts.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? As the childrens hunger for learning about each others identity and where that has come from has evolved children have made different friendships within the class. It has been amazing to watch .
We had some amazing, thought provoking discussions generated because of this kit. The children just loved exploring who they are, where they fit into this world, their own identity but also considering others uniqueness and diversity too. The talk around stereotyping and what that actually means was insightful .

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Many of the Action cards kept all of us, including myself accountable about what we say to each other and what we do. One interesting fact I realised after a Pictionary game was that most of my students thought our European students (2 siblings) in our sp
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Recently we have a new Nigerian student in our class. He and his two siblings are the only African students in our school. Like any new student, my class have embraced him and although they find it difficult to understand his thick accent. Everyone has be
This was a good kit to challenge my students thinking about the world outside our school. I am a Pasifika teacher who works in a year 3-4 MLE in South Auckland with mainly Maori and Pasifika students. Initially, it was difficult for my students to understand discrimination but this kit help my students to slowly understand.
