How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? This kit changed the tone and mindset of many students in my class. They realised that it was in fact easier to make a compliment about someone and they described how they felt when they received a compliment. I felt that our class became more of a 'team'

“I found this kit to be very helpful to support my students with understanding and appreciating diversity. I know that one student in my class overcame her 'fear' of another student's grandfather because ";he looks funny";. As a class we learnt about the different cultures that made up who we are as a Team in our class. Having discussions about similarities and differences between cultures was thought provoking as well. One of the girls in my class felt proud and empowered to wear her special ";Indian dress"; for Diwali and no one looked at this as being strange. Each student in the class wanted to take 'the circle' home and talk to their parents about who should or would be on each ring. As a teacher, I felt very proud to hear the discussions of negative experiences that they had overcome whether by name calling, talking about how they are different because of the colour of their skin or because they were not good at something like running. So many positive interactions came from this and I noticed an increase with 'put-ups' rather than 'put downs'. This kit is fantastic and very thought-provoking on a personal, class and whole school level.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? As a class, including our families, we are looking how we can change our own thoughts/actions and what difference can we make in our community.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have looked deeply into our class culture, how we treat others and how we want to be treated.

“Was definitely a challenging kit. Opened the door for many questions that I had not expected. As a Special character school (Christian) we have the benefit of being able to refer to the Bible to answer some of the questions raised. Also asking 'what would God' say or do' was another reply I would often use. Thank you School Kit for providing such a great platform to have open discussions.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Students are more reflective and aware. It supported them challenge stereotypes and reflect on how to make our school and country a more inclusive place.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students were more aware of the different cultures in our class. They stand ups more for other people and call out societal racism.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It has made students be more considerate and really appreciate who they are and how lucky we are to live where we live. Stereotyping also happens and how we can instead focus on more important aspects than what we first see.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students realised that they had made assumptions about people that really were not true. True compliments based on them as people instead of what they look like were incredibly important as well.

“Wow! What an amazing kit. It was incredibly thought provoking for both myself and the learners in the classroom. The goals aspect was really quite interesting and they took a route I had not anticipated on. They all gave each other incredibly positive compliments and we made a classroom display about this as well to look back on! I aim to include these in an end of year celebration.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Our classroom has become more aware of the diversity and use of language in our classroom. We already ahd many features respecting all cultures so it was more a tweaking process.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students wrote a reflection about the impact of this kit on their perceptions . Without exception they had learnt words hurt and can also show unconscious biases. They have become more aware and mindful of their language and communication. A quote

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students are more aware and make more of an effort to pronounce words correctly and learn other languages.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Really good for increasing awareness of stereotyping. The students developed mini lessons to share with the class which was a rewarding experience for them.
